Meet The Voices, And Faces, Behind Heavy Rain

Rather than hire Nolan North, or the three guys that do all of Bethesda's voice work, Heavy Rain did the smart thing and went and got some proper actors. Best part is, they didn't stop at using just their voices.

Like Half-Life 2 and Mass Effect 2 have done previously with great success, Quantic Dream used not only the actor's voices for Heavy Rain, but modelled the in-game characters on their facial features as well. In some cases, like Madison's, there's just an influence, while in others, like Shelby's, you can see it's just a straight-up replica.

I've included two comparison shots here, but for the full set, head over to Ars Technica, link below.

I must say I'm fan of developers using real people as reference for in-game characters. When done right, it does a lot to counter the uncanny value since it tends to result in more natural proportions. I think it's a nice step for voice-acting in games as well, taking that "voice" disclaimer away from the start of the job description.
