Next Assassin's Creed Will Have Full Campaign, Justified Multiplayer

On the red carpet for the Interactive Achievement Awards here at the DICE convention yesterday, two of the top creators of the Assassin's Creed series provided a little better sense of what the series' surprise 2010 installment will be like.

Ubisoft creative director Patrice Desilets and series lead writer Corey May were both there to celebrate their game's nine nominations and hope to win. While the next Assassin's Creed has been described as the series' first installment with multiplayer, Desilets and May said that the game, featuring ACII hero Ezio's return to Rome, will have a full single-player campaign. Desilets also said, "You know us" - that the game's multiplayer will have a "narrative justification".

The game is being developed at Ubisoft Montreal. May added, with joking helpfulness: "It won't be boring."

Questioned how there could be another full Assassin's Creed just a year after the previous game, Desilets said that it took a year to get the technology fully in place for the last one and is confident that that makes it easier to turn this next game around more swiftly.

Unfortunately for the two men, Assassin's Creed II was swept from the awards, losing to Uncharted 2 in most of the categories in which both games were nominated. But with a new Assassin's Creed coming so soon, they'll be getting another crack at awards glory sooner than most franchise followers expected.

Im happy, as long as its not going to be a yearly thing... ergh

Well what a bunch of liars. Ubi even said November 2011 - the same gap that AC 1 and AC 2 had. As much as i love the games, i don't want a yearly thing. They're gonna thrash it too hard.

I would like more DLC for AC2 personally.

Is Montreal the same team that did the other two games??
Ahhh it just seems all too soon - hopefully it gets delayed to something like March 2011.

I hope this isn't going to turn out like the matrix trilogy where 1 was awesome - got us waiting for 2, which took forever to show itself but was well worth it, with a quick third installment released shortly after the second that was really boring/concluded the series pathetically.

As long as they've mentioned they have the base technology to whip out a third game PROPERLY, i'm satisfied. They haven't left us in the dark with an announcement to work with.

I feel this next release could be more seen in light of an Episode like what GTA4 did. Clearly it isnt the official Assassins Creed 3, which will probably see its release in 2011 making it a yearly thing but still AC3 will of been through the appropriate development time

I think you're on the right track. However, I'd hesitate to compare this new Assassin's Creed with the GTA Episodes because it suggests it will be less than a full game. What is clear though is that this is still AC2 because it continues the story of Ezio, whereas AC3 will tell the story of a new assassin.

Well thats what we hope for anyway.

It could be an "expansion" without classifying itself as one. An "expansion" that adds multiplayer, hopefully ROME among other things.

I wouldn't necessarily want a Vice City for Assassin's Creed - just a massive expansion thats worthy of retail and PERHAPS full price release. But I agree - new assassin and story arc for AC3 in NOVEMBER 2011.
