StarCraft II Closed Beta Launches This Month

Finally, for real, the StarCraft II beta is about to begin. Activision Blizzard president Mike Morhaime announced today during a company earnings call that the close beta of the highly anticipated real-time strategy game will launch this month.

The beta will be offered in North America, Europe, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and, of course, the place where StarCraft II is just about a national pastime, South Korea. Morhaime said the beta would be accessible by thousands of players and used to gather feedback and generate excitement.

The game itself is expected to launch in mid-2010.

StarCraft II has been in development for several years. The original StarCraft was launched in 1998.

    12 years later... Finally!

    I want it now!!!!!

meh, never played the first one so I can't really say what all the fuss is about.. RTS games to me have just become dated and overdone, had a go on the command and conquer beta for about 5 minutes and that was 5 minutes too long... the genre is dead if you ask me.

    hell, its about time

So, this and Duke Nukem forever are coming at around the same time right :P

geez, there was a fairly massive rush to get a bad company 2 beta key... imagine what this will be like...

cant wait to get my hands on the beta. ive been reserved a key already :D

I've been waiting a long time for this. I've also been reading up on the new Battle.Net and it all looks very well done and well AWESOME!. I've signed up for the beta testing via battle.net and hopefully I get int, but my luck with the standard "sign up to closed beta" has so far forced me to get a key from pre-order, fileplanet or wait for open beta. Please let this time be different!
