What Colourblind Hackers See In BioShock 2

As Kotaku's resident Pissed-Off Colourblind Gamer, I have yet to play BioShock 2, but I already knew the hacking mini-game would be bad news for mutants like me. Here's a comparison of what colourblind gamers are up against.

Negative Gamer took a screengrab of the hack terminal and ran it through a colour contrast analyser to approximate what the colourblind see for you lucky arse normal colour-seeing folks. I'm squarely in the deuteranopia camp (pictured above) and you can see how washed out the red and green are. This is key because green equals success whereas red equals sound the alarm. You can see the two other examples at the link. Poor, poor tritanopians. They're outcasts even among us.

My brotherhood of colourblind mutants is fired up and complaining about it in this forum thread. I know nothing of how the game was developed so I can't sit here and demand 2K Marin patch it. But seriously, again, lay off any dependency on red-green colour recognition and we don't have this kind of petty-sounding complaint. It's a win-win. Except for the tritanopians. Screw them.

What BioShock 2's Hacking Looks Like if You're Colour Blind [Negative Gamer]

Haha yeah i am colourblind aswell and when i saw this for the first time i was like.. huh?

I kept setting off the alarm thinking i AM landing on the green section!!!!!! Then my gf told me that there was a red section aswell.

    Fail :p

So now i just make sure i save it right before any hacking attempt. I am going for the "Do not use vita-chambers" achievment so its really not a problem.

Although i agree with the MW 2 article.. that green/red radar is near impossible sometimes.

I'm interested to know, seeing as I know no one who is colour blind: what exactly is it like being colour blind? I mean, say you saw something red, would you instantly look at it and think it is red (even though you might see it as brown to us), or would you think, that's brown but it should be red, or "I wonder if that colour is red or green"? I don't mean any offense and please excuse my ignorance but I really am curious. :/

    They look different to me

Unless of course you're referring to the brown compared to the blue.
Otherwise even the non-colour blind should only be seeing brown and blue.
