Infinity Ward Still "Central To Call Of Duty's Future"

While something rotten has definitely gone down between publishers Activision and the bossmen of Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward, it seems the studio itself is still a key part of the franchise moving forward.

An internal memo distributed to members of Infinity Ward earlier today says that while the "brains" of the operation, Vince Zampella and Jason West are out, "Infinity Ward remains central to Call of Duty's future and we rely on the combined talent, expertise and leadership of the team there for its success."

That'll sound good to investors today, but really, how much is it going to mean going forward? Decapitate one of the most successful development studios in the world and you eliminate a lot of its worth. You also run the risk of a mass exodus of talent, as other key personnel involved in the Call of Duty series leave Infinity Ward and follow Zampella and West, just like they did eight years ago when they split from 2015.

Leaving Activision with, well... look, how many times have you heard from 2015 since the big Medal of Honor split?

Exactly.

this just goes to support my theory - investors have NFI when it comes to games and development. they simply see a magical cash cow product, that they then pimp out to their own greedy desire - at the great cost and injustice of those who strive so hard to make dreams into reality.

If their memo actually used the phrase "Brains of the operation" then I don't know how that's going to make share holders feel better.

Jason West is now working on Modern Welfare

The next public statement from IW will probably feature an abused terrified man reading a statement from a shaking piece of paper assuring us that they are being treated fairly whilst he glances nervously at the man holding the gun just off camera

Corporations are responsible to their stockholders not their stakeholders, hence why the dynamic duo left.

'Decapitate' is exactly what they have done. Sure Infinity Ward are still technically making the games, but the main leaders have now left leaving it an empty shell. The new leaders may or may not be as good, but the fact is it isn't Infinity Ward now because the people who made it so good have now left.

no zamp and west is like gears with no cliffyb
