Warner Bros Interactive has tapped the team behind Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath to create The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, co-op action RPG for the Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3.
With the console instalment of Baldur's Gate and the two EverQuest-themed Champions titles under its belt, no one knows the cooperative console RPG quite like Snowblind Studios. The developer now takes that expertise and applies it to the Northern battlegrounds from J.R.R. Tolkein's Lord of the Rings series.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North sees players creating their own hero to take part in the epic War of the Ring. Laced with the lore and characters from the popular series, the game also features mechanics and features action RPG fans crave, including extensive character customisation, upgradeable weapons and skills, and plenty of co-op gameplay options.
"In The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Snowblind will deliver an action RPG for core gamers featuring authentic narrative and environmental locations from J.R.R. Tolkien's original The Lord of the Rings," said Ryan Geithman, Founder and Studio Head of Snowblind Studios. "This game is a natural evolution of the acclaimed RPG gameplay that Snowblind has consistently delivered over the past years. Players and fans will experience an innovative approach to online co-op gameplay, woven throughout every facet of the game in a way that only Snowblind can deliver."
Seriously, I'm all tingly. I loved what Snowblind did with Champions of Norrath and Dark Alliance. Hell, I even enjoyed Justice League Heroes. Seeing that same sort of dedication and expertise applied to Middle Earth has me completely geeking out.
Too bad we're going to have to wait until 2011 for the game to come out. In the meantime, we can visit the game's teaser site and wait patiently.
