The Rock Band Network Goes Live With 100 Plus New Tracks

In January, Harmonix launched the tools needed for artists to publish their songs on the Rock Band Network. Today, the Rock Band Network Store opens to the public, with more than 100 new songs for fans to purchase and play.

The Rock Band Network Store is now online, with new track from artists ranging from 3 Inches of Blood to Zack Wilson now available for download. New tracks will be debuting on the Xbox 360 on a regular basis, with 30 days of exclusivity. A subset of standout tracks from the Xbox 360 will be made available to those playing on the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, which answers a question Totilo had when he previewed the service back in August.

"The response to and interest in the Rock Band Network has been even greater than we originally expected," said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix Music Systems. "We're very excited about the number of bands and labels who have geared up to participate in the Rock Band Network, as well as the number of enthusiasts who have signed up to participate in the Peer Review and Playtest processes."

Check out Totilo's article for a good overview of the process involved in getting your music onto the Rock Band Network Music Store.

Was so excited about this, but when I logged in, it seems as though Australia is currently unsupported. I want my KMFDM damnit.

@Aaron Monson - Australia won't ever be getting Rock Band Network. It relies upon having access to the XNA channel, which Microsoft has been "working on" since mid-'08.

In short, the XNA channel's never going to show up, so the RBN won't either.

        Wow really? That is bollocks.

I'm on PS3; wonder how it's going to work there. I just assumed that the songs would show up on the PS store or something.

As I understand it, some of the more popular songs will be ported over to PS3, presumably just appearing in the store like normal...

It took Microsoft two years to get the 'Inside Xbox' Channel to Australia, so I doubt we'll ever see this at all.

        Which sucks majorly because

        1) There are a heap of XNA titles I've seen and would purchase, and

        2) JUKE JOINT JEZEBEL GOD DAMN IT!!!!

Amazingly, Australians can actually join the XNA creators club, and CREATE XNA content.

So surely access to the content is coming soon. Right..?

          @ Karachi King

Really? Logic would dictate that we should be able to access the XNA content too then, surely!

Hey Mr Wildgoose, who can we ask about this?

We've had creator access for a long time - 18 months or so, IIRC.

So does everybody else. We just don't have access to the channel. Some people hypothesize that it's due to OFLC issues (i.e. that every game would have to be rated), others that it's just that there's no benefit in doing the work to open it outside of North America and Europe.

Either way, I can't see it happening soon.

PS3 and Wii will get a "selection" of RBN tracks after 30 days of 360-exclusivity, but there's been no word on whether they'll be released outside the US.

(twiddling thumbs and quietly waiting for the PS3 equivalent to come out via a patch...)

This is going to be big! Great to get some KMFDM and Flogging Molly. Can anyone do this? I've never heard of Scratching the Itch, but Buddy disease is fun to play. Are these all real bands?
