Call Of Duty Series To "Broaden" Its Audience

Video game publisher Activision released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 last year. It made over a billion dollars. Now Activision has decide it will make the series more accessible.

Because over a billion dollars is not accessible. And not enough people read Harry Potter books. Have you ever seen Star Wars?

Thomas Tippl, Activision's chief operating officer and chief financial officer, explained which studios work on the hugely successful Call of Duty franchise: "Today, we have three studios working on Call of Duty. We have Infinity Ward, which made Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Then we have Treyarch, which will be releasing a Call of Duty game in the fall of 2010. Treyarch also developed Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 3. And, most recently, we've added Sledgehammer in the Bay Area. We haven't yet announced the content of their game, but it's going to be an innovative take that will further broaden the audience for Call of Duty."

Broaden the audience? Pretty sure Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 developed by Infinity Ward would be Activision's best bet for that.

Oh wait. Right then. Well, carry on with that Call of Duty innovation!

I wonder how many people complaining here actually helped contribute to the "over a billion dollars"... Surely I wasn't the only one who saw this fail coming.

So are they going to broaden it for young kids and old people now?
The current audience is teenagers and adults, so the average ages are probably between about 14-45. While mostly males there would be a fair amount of females as well. This is a big ass audience, which is why it earned over a billion dollars. They say they want to broaden their audience, who the hell else could they introduce it to? Every possible person who would want to be playing it are or have.

Yeah, I'm over CoD... CoD4 was the absolute pinnacle of FPS, MW2 spoiled it, this sounds like it's going to be even worse.

I truly hate Activision, they have by far surpasses EA as my most hated gaming company.

They could broaden their audience by lowering the god damn price.

Isn't announcing that a new game will be released this year BEFORE the West And Zampella Vs. Activision lawsuit concludes a little arrogant, or at the very least, pre-mature?

I like how they dont mention the original CoD at all starting with CoD2 for Infinity Ward. Not at all trying to glaze over the fact that the most of the original creative talent behind the franchise are gone.

Anyway... don't much care. CoD ceased being fun at after CoD4 (and it's not like CoD2 or CoD3 were anything to write home about).

What are they going to do make CoD an FPS like every other company out there seems to think it will broaden its audience... oh wait.

/me is still stewing over x-com

Maybe they'll make it for phones, or facebook.

    Call Of Duty: Facebook.

Actually, that sounds mildly fun... someone patent that... we'll make a mint.

mw2 fucked fps gaming up the ass and turned it into a joke. too many noobs on mw2. why is it even so expensive? bc2 did a much better job at handling a sequel and their game is cheaper than mw2.

Title of this story made me laugh so hard, everybody could see it happening.

I'm hoping for a 1/2 size replica tank peripheral.

'Broaden audience' = we need more than billions of dollars let's put something on the Wii (again).
