Confirmed: The Best Final Fantasy Is Coming To The PlayStation Network

After a couple of weeks' worth of teasing, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada confirmed during a brief Twitter video that the best Final Fantasy game ever created will soon be released on the PlayStation Network.

Just in case any of you forgot which Final Fantasy was the best, it was of course, Final Fantasy IX for the PlayStation. Final Fantasy VII might have brought the series into a new age, and Final Fantasy VI (III in North America) had the best cast and the most insane villain in franchise history, but there's one thing neither of them had.

This guy:

Vivi wins, every time, and if you feel like arguing about it, I shall channel the very spirit of the internet into one giant, all-encompassing 'You are wrong.' Just imagine me saying that after every argumentative comment, and I can relax and eat my Chinese food.

Anyway, we'll soon be able to carry him around in our pocket, or play with him on our PlayStation 3 brand console product. So says Yoichi Wada, via his tiny Twitter video. Hit up the link to see Yoichi in action!

Final Fantasy IX Confirmed for PSN [Adriasang]

Of course I am joking. Final Fantasy love is a personal thing. Please don't set me on fire.

OH YEAH ff9 for the win

    Final Fantasy IX <3
    Vivi <3 <3

The biggest gripe I had with FF9 was they took an absolutely perfect minigame (the card game) from FF8 and just made it needlessly complicated. I loved the card game in FF8, I actually started a few new records just to collect and play cards. Then when 9 rolled out it was full of these horrible complicated rules and card caps that made the game a chore.

Don’t you just hate it when games do this?, they take a perfectly good thing and screw it up for just because they feel they need to be innovative. I would have loved the exact same card game from FF8 to be in every final fantasy from now on, just update the cards. It sure beats the hell out of that number adding coin game from x-2.

And pointless =P The card game served no purpose whatsoever.. unlike in VIII where you could morph them to useful items xD

That being said... hooray for IX! =D

The Chocobo digging game did make up for the sucky card game somewhat.

    Sh*t yeah! I loved FF9.

The best FF for me, by the way, was Tactics

Hell yeah man! FF IX was by far my favorite.

    Final Fantasy IX, the best?
I always have and was will regard Final Fantasy VI the best.

Agreed on Final Fantasy VI being the best. Only ever got up to the second disc for Final Fantasy IX so when this comes out I'll pick it up and try to make it through.

I admit Vivi is my favourite FF character but...the game itself wasn't that good IMO

How about Amarant? He kicked so much ass! I think half the reason I liked FF9 so much was cause the characters were stylized differently from the other FF's (from FF7 that is).

    How much?

      I'm guessing around $15 - $17 like part 7 and 8

    Damn straight it's the best.

FF7 was the best for me. Would be good to get hold of 9, considering this article.

I can't believe how many of you think 9 was the best... seriously, 9? It was probably my least favorite of them all, with the possible exception of 12...

... I'll still be getting it on the PSN though. My copy was leant out and never returned about ten years ago, and I've wanted to play it again for some time, even if it doesn't hold the appeal that 7, 8 and 10 held for me. (And maybe 13, but that remains to be seen...)

Vivi was cool, but FF9 was a low point for me. Long live FF8 :D

hehe yea. vivi "the black mage" was really cool no doubt.

but vivi "the emo kid" wasn't as good. i think ff9 had the worst villain tho. pretty much a copy of sephiroth, only worst.

Man kuja was cool in his own right........ he had epic theme music as well

Thank you Square Enix! You've given me my fave on PSP (tactics) and then you released Vagrant Story and now FFIX. You are made of WIN. Now please upgrade FFVI too :)

As much as I love my Final Fantasy, Vagrant Story being released was the highlight of PSN for me.

I'm surprised the hardcore FFVII fanboys haven't come in to flame. FFVI has always been at the top of my list but FFIX was pretty darn fun too. You just can't look at Vivi and not go, that kid looks awesome.

It's interesting to see how polarising the change in design choice from the realistic romance of VIII to the adventure and whimsicality in IX. I think there's many people aout there who resent seeing graphics they saw as being for children in their otherwise mature and challenging entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed the way IX did not feel as rigid and forced as some of the others and the world was full of rich and interesting little distractions.

The rich world as opposed to striking character drama FFs have appealed to me much more. XII has the most in common with IX and I've enjoyed that for the same reason. Also, the FF IX characters felt genuinely unique instead of anime tropes shuffled out and assembled. I recently listed the VII characters out and aside from Aeris' fate and Red XIII, every one of them was quite tropetacular.

I agree with the calls for VI though, that has the most complete experience of all with rich characters, world and moving story. Arguably, IX took too long to get to an emotional point favoured by the series, yet that journey was among the most interesting.

    Loved 7, 8, 10 & 10-2. Thought 9 was just okay. Hated 12.

You guys are all wrong. The ONLY 2 good FF games they ever made were 6 and 7. X was playable, but everything else was crap.

Please SquareEnix, may we please have Chrono Cross and/or Xenogears next? You kind of forgot about us in Australia with those two apparent gems. Hugs and kisses.
