Eight More Leave Modern Warfare Developers, Making 25 In Total

The exodus from Modern Warfare developers Infinity Ward continues at a breakneck pace, with news today that a further eight employees have left the studio in the wake of the “Legal Warfare” showdown.

In addition to the five men who left on Friday, we’ve learned that three more – level designer Kevin Bell, designer Charlie Wiederhold and level designer Preston Glenn – also packed up and left the Activision-owned Infinity Ward at the end of last week.

Adding to these are five more, all of whom left yesterday: lead character artist Joel Emslie, weapons artist Ryan Lastimosa, artist Brad Allen, lead programmer Robert Field and our first non-developmental one of the bunch, HR/recruitment specialist Kristin Cotterell.

That brings us to a staggering 25 employees in total to have left Infinity Ward since the drama began, a tally which constitutes the bulk of the studio’s creative and programming “brains trust”.

There’s no official word yet on where these ex-employees have ended up, but… yeah.

      • i think infinity ward is one of the bigger studios so theres probably quite a few left but it would defiantly be noticeable

        • Though given some of the people who’ve left, I imagine most of the people still there had very little input into what made the previous games so popular…

          • “Good morning Bob. Good news! you’ve been promoted. Besides your usual cleaning duties we’ll be needing you to fill in our senior programmer, senior art director, lead animator and script writer positions until the end of the month.”

          • And we’re also gonna need you to go ahead and come in on Sunnndaayy. Yeeeeaaaahhh… we lost a few people this week and we’re kind of playing catch-up.

  • Yes. Great news.

Hopefully with their own studio they’ll be able to create something else on par with COD4, and not something that was good but obviously rushed.

    • I’m actually hoping for something a little different. Starting to get a little sick of the COD formula, I’m hoping for a new direction.

  • This just means the next CoD will be shit. Activision still owns IW, and thus the Modern Warfare label. They’ll make it, but it won’t be very good. :/

    • And nothing of value was lost.

No really, if “Call of Duty” is no longer going to be as good as it was and will be rehash after rehash, then there’s nothing lost in the end.

I hope “Respawn” creates a better series and finds a better, more trust worthy company to publish their games for them. Hell, I hope they go for a different genre even, I’m sure the minds of Infinity Ward can come up with some awesome games other than FPS’s.

Activision sucked the soul out of the Call of Duty franchise. :T
