Modern Warfare Developers Sees More Key Departures

Call of Duty creators and Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward shrinks again today, as more key talent behind the billion first-person shooter franchise jumps ship. Sources close to the studio tell Kotaku of four new departures from the troubled developer.

A pair of Modern Warfare 2's lead designers, Steve Fukuda and Zied Reike, are said to have left the Encino-based Infinity Ward today. Fukuda joined the studio in January 2002, according to his LinkedIn profile, after leaving 2015 Inc, the former home of Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella. Rieke has also been with Infinity Ward since the formation of the studio.

Both Fukua and Rieke were listed in the Writers Guild of America award nomination for Modern Warfare 2's story, a group that also includes former IW staffers Todd Alderman, Mackey McCandlish and Jason West.

According to those same sources, programmer Rayme Vinson and lead artist Chris Cherubini have also left the studio.

Talk about abandoning a sinking ship...

abandoning a sinking ship?...hmm, sounds like a level in COD4.

Is there a full list of the departures? This is hilarious, though it won't stop Activision pumping out another 50 sequels

Seems like the 2015 situation is happening again. Whilst the two former head guys can't solicit the others for employment, NOTHING stops the IW employees approaching them.

When 2015 split, I think it was 20 or so guys from 2015 that went and formed IW?

To quote an old song "It seems like histories repeatinnnnnnng"

I wonder which studio they'll be going to know. lol

But... but... Modern Warfare 2's story line was truly, truly awful. I would describe it as incoherent, ridiculous and an unwanted step towards the very worst of hollywood writing.

There may have been No Russian, but there was certainly a lot of /facepalming.

Thank goodness the gameplay was blissful!

Glad I wasn't the only one that read this and almost fell off my seat! They got nominated for good writing!?

You know once Activision blow out the CoD franchise like they did Guitar Hero all they're going to have to lean on for cash is Blizzard, they really don't do anything else that is that note worthy.

Clearly the Tony Hawk RIDE juggernaut is what's going to see them through the decade
