NSFW: Quentin Tarantino So "Not Interested" In Video Games

Whether it be comic books, exploitation cinema or cheesy TV, Quentin Tarantino might be a pop culture connoisseur. There is one type of pop culture he is not interested in, and that's video games.

"I cannot get myself interested in video games," the 47 year-old filmmaker told Telegraph. "I've been given video game players and they just sit there connected to my TVs gathering dust until eventually I unplug them so I can put in another special-region DVD player."

Hardly surprising — you'd be lucky to get Tarantino interested in a computer. Tarantino is a bit of a luddite. He writes out his scripts by hand. He doesn't direct films from a monitor like most modern filmmakers, but he typically stands next to the camera during shooting like old time directors used to do. His hobby is collecting old feature film prints. Unlike the gonzo gung-ho of his tech-crazy buddy Robert Rodriguez, Tarantino's analogue world view is readily apparent in his films, most of which still seem like they were filmed in the 1970s. Though, no complaints here — it has served him well!

His debut feature, Reservoir Dogs, was adapted into a video game in 2006.

Tarantino once famously said this of digital films, "I'm sick to death of all that CGI shit. My guys are all real. If I'd wanted all that computer game bullshit, I'd have gone home and stuck my dick in my Nintendo. This CGI bullshit is the death knell of cinema."

His unplugged Nintendo gathering dust, that is.

Ahh... that sucks, his games would of been so good - just as long as he directed them himself.

and this is why he is so dam good cgi is only good for animated movies

CGI can be used really well, but it should never replace puppets, makeup and props.

Star Wars is a perfect example of this.

Eh, who cares? It's hard to know whether skill in directing films translates into video games anyway. Sounds like he still has values and isn't prepared to sell out like most others would... and his films are among the best, DESPITE being traditionally shot. He's living proof that CGI sucks the life out films... so how can anyone blame him for not being a gamer?

Some people prefer different things and it's good for the industry.

That said, Uwe Boll should take himself out the back and put his head in the specially-made guillotine I made for him.

uwe boll serves a purpose. he's a good example to all other directors of what not to do. and for the good director that occasionally has a flop, uwe is a reminder that things could be a lot worse.

Reading the title i was just thinking.. Eh who cares? I still ADMIRE him.

Reading the article.. i WORSHIP him.

Lets just say, he was the real person who was robbed at the Oscars. I mean The Hurt Locker for screenplay.. c'mon! Any Tarantino film automatically gets nominated but Basterds... totally deserved that award. If i could choose any movie other than Inglorious Basterds to win, it would have been Up!

Heck, Quentin even deserved the Best Director award.

But doesn't Tarentino like the Half-Life series? Atleast thats what I heard.

I admire Tarantino for his conviction and his films have been brilliant (I loved Deathproof too)

Though, interestingly in the recent Empire, Terry Gilliam was raving about Heavy Rain...so who knows how well film direction applies to interactive story-telling.

Only people who saw DeathProof were Tarantino and his mum.

Tarantino's a has been, anything after Pulp Fiction has been a generic-rip-off, ego project.
