Rush'n Attack Gets Fully Re-Armed

Konami rebirths another of its 8-bit classics - admittedly, we may be a little fast and loose with that accolade - revealing an update to its 1985 side-scrolling stab-a-thon Rush'n Attack, currently in the works for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

Known as Rush'n Attack Ex-Patriot, the side-scrolling arcadey throwback is planned to hit the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3's respective digital distribution networks sometime later this year. It's in development at Czech studio Vatra Games, the same developers chugging away at a new Silent Hill game for the 360/PS3.

Rush'n Attack Ex-Patriot will let players slice and shoot their way through a Siberian prison complex, a bio-weapons laboratory and a nuclear weapons base, all the while "armed with a little more than a knife". Yes.

With Rocket Knight and Rush'n Attack updates coming this year, what should Konami revive next? Jackal, maybe? First screens of Rush'n Attack Ex-Patriot below.

Reminds me of Bionic Commando: Re-Armed. Great game, that. Some of the best downloadable software this generation.

Gah, the correct name is Green Beret!

I think Time Pilot would have a lot of potential if made a bit more complex

Complex? There's a good idea - perhaps they could introduce paradoxes into the whole time-travel aspect. You know - there's one enemy pilot in each level who's actually your ancestor, and if you shoot him down then you wink out of existence. Something like that?

I always thought the correct name was Rush'N Attack, but got renamed to Green Beret to avoid "offending" the same crowd who found the C64's classic "Raid over Moscow" to be inciteful?

Also, re-imaging looks awesome. Looks very Shadow Complex-ish too!
