StarCraft II Collectors Edition Confirmed For Australia

StarCraft II Collectors Edition Confirmed For Australia

StarCraft II Collectors Edition Confirmed For AustraliaThat StarCraft II special edition revealed earlier this morning is definitely coming to Australia, Blizzard has confirmed. We’ve got a pic with the Aussie rating and everything.

It’ll retail for $AU149.95 RRP (or $NZ199.95 RRP, for our New Zealand friends) and contain all this stuff:

* The Art of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, a 176-page book featuring artwork from the game

* An exclusive 2GB USB flash drive replica of Jim Raynor’s dog tag, which comes preloaded with the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War expansion set

* A behind-the-scenes DVD containing over an hour of developer interviews, cinematics with director’s commentary, and more

* The official StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty soundtrack CD, containing 14 epic tracks from the game along with exclusive bonus tracks

* StarCraft comic book issue #0, a prequel to the comic series

* A World of Warcraft mini Thor in-game pet that can be applied to all World of Warcraft characters on a single account

* Exclusive downloadable content, including special portraits for your profile, decals to customise your units in-game, and a visually unique version of the terran Thor unit

Who’s swapping over their preorder now?

  • I love the concept of the dog tag USB stick preloaded with an old game. This is the kind of gimmick that would make me more interested in a day one purchase. Art books, soundtracks, plastic facehuggers, not so much.

  • I’m one who REALLY loved starcraft when it first came out. I spent hours playing online against friends – even more so when i got brood wars…

…But for some reason i’m not getting anywhere near as excited about this game any more… Possibly because it’s taking so long to actually get to anyone maybe i’m just over it a little?

I’ll end up getting it as i will always love playing starcraft, but being tight on money i won’t be able to get this.

Although i must say, that as far as SE’s go, this is pretty damn great.

  • Swapped my pre-order the moment EB announced it via twitter, before I’d even looked at what was in the box. damn my OCD for collecting Blizzard CE boxes (still haven’t gotten a Vanilla WoW one though. would like one, even if the pet code has been used!).

  • Must admit, the USB with Starcraft 1 and Brood War on it appeals to me. Can’t find the old disks anywhere. 😛

Does anyone know if there are any nasty DRM or anti-piracy measures for this? Do you have to be signed in to 100% of the time when you are playing – even offline?

  • Just put one on pre-order.

Meh used to bending over for games here in Aus so didn’t even phase me. Tempted to pre-order a second from another store just so I can sell it on ebay at least I should be able to double my money.

  • Preordered today. SC fans note eb is sorting the proverbial men from the boys to reduce the number of bogus preorders – minimum deposit is $50, but as we all know these babies are going to sell out quick!

    • See to me this is ridiculous. I guarantee GAME are accepting $10 deposits….

It just means EB can let the $50 sit in an account with a whole load of other $50 pre-orders earning interest for doing nothing.

$10 is fine, no issue, but $50 ESPECIALLY when they know that they will easily sell the CE’s if people don’t pick them up is just highway robbery and taking advantage of the situation.

      • choc id say its more that EB have put a sign up saying strictly one copy per person

and the 50 dollars represents this i dont think youll find to many people who are gonna preorder 2-3 copys for that cost(as would be the case with the people who would pre order them and try to sell them later)

besides the intrest youd get on 50 bucks would be like what $3 at 6% for a whole year and if the games i probably only 6 months tops till it comes out anyways

and i would be guessing that you probably arent gonna maintain that 50 dollars in your bank account for a year it would just be 50 dollars youd be willing to spend now instead of later

and youd just dip into your saved money a bit when it comes out

  • I’ve never really played or gotten into Starcraft, but man do my Korean friends LOVE it. I might as well just pick this up since it happens to include the first one and its expansion.

  • Damn if that isn’t an impressive Collector’s Edition. Although I have no interest in the game I love the fan value that Blizzard put in to their titles.

  • Just got the preorder at an EB close to work. The guy said he’s expecting the release to be towards the end of this financial year (may/june) and that the trend has been that Blizzard releases CE details about 2 months before the game is released

  • Oh joy a Thor pet…

Cept i don’t play WoW and I really don’t intend to start anytime soon either xD The rest of the lewt is nifty tho =3

Still doesn’t do much for me in terms of no LAN problems @_@

  • Is there any word on digital distribution for this? Given that you can use Battle.Net to download all of their other games, I’m hoping this is an option they’re looking at.

(ie I don’t want to pre-order from a store, but I’m still totally getting it on day one)

  • That price is ridiculous. The Lich king collectors edition was $120 here in New Zealand. So $130 for the standard edition of a third of a game is retarded. It’s just Activision being greedy.

    • Well… WotLK was an expansion pack and 100 AUD for each installment is quite a bit. I’ve spent nearly $300 just on WoW (besides subscription) and SC was the first Blizz game I really got into, so this is instant purchase for me

    • – 30+ hour Terran campaign with bonus Protoss missions
      – Infinitely replayable multiplayer with all 3 factions and no doubt tonnes of maps.
      – Extreme game modability and user content generation with most likely one of the best game editors ever made
      – Fully integrated Steam like system with stat tracking, game stats, replays, achievements, profiles and more.

Yeah you’re getting a third of a game alright.

Me thinks the greedy one is you good sir.

      • Well that’s all good initially.

But then we have the Protos and Zerg Campaigns to come and other then the missions. What additional features will be brought with them?

Can you not buy the Terran Campaign but get the Protos or Zerg only when they come out – or are you required to purchase each one to play the next?

It’s accurate to say we are getting a lot for our money and even the special edition is well worth the money. But it is the upcoming releases for the other games that I am concerned about.
Will we be buying 3 x Special collectors editions or will the next releases be a little more cheaper?

        • I want into my local Game to pre order as soon as this was released. I was told that they are not taking any more pre-orders and are only getting stock for the ones they currently have.

I’m not sure what EB are up to, but if you haven’t pre-ordered prior to reveal you’ve pretty much got buckley’s of getting a special edition.

  • I just ordered mine from Amazon in the US. Only cost me $125 AUD inc 2 day international postage so I don’t have to wait too long 🙂
