StarCraft II Special Edition Launching For $US100

With the release date for the first instalment of StarCraft II being revealed in the coming weeks, Blizzard shows off the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Collector's Edition, complete with art book, soundtrack CD and in-game World of Warcraft pet.

Speaking as a World of Warcraft player who isn't very good at StarCraft, including a mini Thor in-game pet inside every copy of the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Collector's Edition just isn't fair.

It's bad enough the set contains The Art of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, a 176-page art book filled with illustrations and concept art that should make an excellent companion piece to the art books for the second and third installment.

I could probably resist the 2GB USB flash drive replica of Jim Raynor's dog tag loaded with the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War expansion, or the behind-the-scenes DVD, or even the 14-track soundtrack CD. I could even do without the special Battle.net downloadable content, as I have little use for character portraits, or unit customisation details.

As a collector of art books and World of Warcraft in-game pets, however, I am pretty much locked in at $US100. Well played, Activision Blizzard. Well played indeed.

Those who simply want to play the game will be able to pick up the normal edition of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty for $US60. Look for the official release date to be revealed in the coming weeks.

Um, i suck at Starcraft, but still, all those extras, especially the 176 page artbook, oh man i really want it. I mean i'm only gonna buy it for the single player....why are you doing this to me Blizzard.

Didn't they say they wouldn't charge full price for each chapter of Starcraft given it wasn't going to be a full game???

I mean they're screwing people by dividing the game into 3 saleable campaigns and charging 3 times for it... ripoff.

Actually they've stated numerous times the campaign in each game will be the length of a full game (ie, what took 3 campaigns to cover in SC1).

In other words, as opposed to buying 1 full game for full price, you'll be buying 3 full games for full price.

lol so basically 300 dollars for Starcraft 2. Yay! Way to rape our wallets Blizzard... I mean that's all well and dandy, but then you go and not call us after the event by adding DRM *sniffle*

Just put one down on pre-order $50(Aus) to hold and then $99 on the day it is released.

Yeppers Australians are paying $149 for this at local EB stores - CBF trying to find the cheaper prices too used to just bending over already when buying games here.

eh just get it price matched later

Collectors/Special Editions are a waste of money. The additional stuff you get will be forgotten in a few days/weeks, whereas the actual game will (hopefully) last for much longer. Unless you are bursting at the seams with cash, I would save your money guys.

Agreed. Im waiting a month after its released and picking it up for 79.95 or so from GAME or Gametraders.

Unfortunately for you Weresmurf and Tinman - the Collectors editions for this game are extremely limited and i'll pretty much guarantee you that the prices will sky rocket for them once the supply runs out.
