Time Readers: Penny Arcade Creators More Influential Than Obama, But Not Lady Gaga

In the race to determine Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World, readers rank Penny Arcade's Gabe and Tycho just above President Barack Obama, but they've got a ways to go before catching up to Lady Gaga.

Every year, Time polls its readers on the artists, leaders, and innovators they believe are the most influential people in the world, and every year, watching the standings fluctuate is more entertaining than anything you'll find on television.

This year gamers are represented by two different nominees. We have Fable creator Peter Molyneux, currently languishing in 104th place, with Jerry Seinfeld, Meghan McCain, Mitt Romney, and Marc Jacobs standing in the way of his spot on the top 100.

Don't worry though. Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik of Penny Arcade fame are representing, sitting pretty at number 13, beating the President of the United States, Barack Obama, John Stewart, and Beyoncé.

What's depressing about the poll is the people beating our PA pals. Sure, they're pretty much guaranteed a spot in the top 100 at this point, but to lose to Robert Pattinson, the guy who plays that sick-looking kid in the Twilight movies, or worse, Lady Gaga, crouched atop the number 3 position like some sort of feral bird, swiping her powerful foreclaws at anyone who comes close.

I can deal with Conan O'Brien in the number one position, but we need to get Gabe and Tycho higher on that list. To do your part, visit Jerry and MIke's entry and crank that influence meter up to 100. They've shown us gamers can be a force for good in the world; let's show them we value them more than Lady Gaga.

Ack! Her powerful foreclaws! Run!

Man I am the typo assassin today!

    But, I like Gaga more.
Maybe if the guys put out some great dance tunes and out camp her in the vidjo clips, then I will consider.
    Till then? No.

Who's this "Lady Gaga" I keep hearing about anyway?

Come on Lady Gaga should be #1, She pointed at me at her Newcastle Concert & I nearly had a heart attack lol.

    peter is #44 now.

That paints a depressing view of the future if Lady Gaga is the most influential person in the world.

Well I guess that being a cautionary example for why you shouldn't be a transexual pop star is a kind of influence...

Like it or not, Lady Gaga is very influential on mainstream pop culture, which includes probably very few people that would post on Kotaku.

I'm a big fan of Gaga, her show is fantastic and her music, while a bit poppy has some pretty hard core dance beats behind it. Her messages are actually very good, basically be yourself, whoever you want to be and let others be themselves.

Lady Gaga is a fucking tool. She dresses like a retard purely for shock factor and her music is just cut/copy generic top 40 shite.

That is the most retarded f*()&%# thing ive ever read. No, the president of the united states is the most powerful man in the world. Gabe and Tycho's influence starts with the videogame industry and ends with the videogame industry fans. this is a crappy popularity contest.

Obamas decisions affect 350million people and his foreign policies affect the rest of the world. Just look how his foreign policy on internet freedoms is affecting conroy's internet filter plans.

I just banged my head against the wall several times. FRICKEN LADY GAGA IS MORE INFLUENTIAL THEN THE PRESIDENT? This list is a charade. Unless the people on kotaku are being "ironic" (you have to be reaching Dave levels of irony) about her, then you should take a few hours of meditation, and realize that thinking that Gaga is more influential then the President (of 2010) is really REALLY stupid. I am losing a lot of faith in peoples intelligence.

Lady Gaga is a Madonna clone, albeit with a longer shelf life.
