Call Of Duty: Black Ops Dedicated To Dedicated Servers

PC gamers who felt burned by the decision to drop dedicated server support for Modern Warfare 2 may have a friend in that other Call of Duty developer Treyarch. The developer all but confirms dedicated server multiplayer in Black Ops.

Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia tells CVG that dedicated servers are "excellent" and that the Call of Duty: Black Ops team is "excited about what we're doing right now."

If that doesn't quite sound like solid, undeniable confirmation to you, maybe this will make you feel a tad better. Lamia says that Treyarch is working to "reconcile" the needs of those who want to play on dedicated servers and those who want a more console-like multiplayer experience.

"We're working very hard to marry those two things, so people can run dedicated servers and also participate in the communal experience the console players get to have, given they're all on first-party servers," he says.

So... yay?

I called it - i knew Treyarch would have improved upon Infinity. Whether this is Activision changing their mind after all the backlash - they may have thought, well Treyarch ain't gonna get as stellar results as IW, so if we put Dedicated Servers then there is gonna be at least some interest.

Either way this is a 360 purchase for me and i can't wait!

Awesome!! Knew I could trust Treyarch. They're being smart and actually doing things properly this time.

Lets face it - there was no way that treyarch was going to risk p*ssing off the PC community again. There are still hundreds of posts a day on the IW forums complaining about ping/lack of dedicated servers. I would be willing to bet if IW could turn back the clock they would have simply added dedicated servers to stop the hassle.

I am glad that treyarch listened to the community on this point, as for some reason as much as i enjoyed COD4, i enjoyed World at War better and wanted to see what Treyarch can do in the Cold War era.

IW can go screw itself, even though they makes good games...they gave a big middle finger to PC gamers with MW2, whatever Treyarch games r good enough to play

This is good news they may be able to save there franchise by doing this

yay, no more hosts leaving and screwing up the game

dedicated servers on console would be great, though it might work better for bigger games like 32 players on killzone 2
