Creating Some Of The Best Video Game Menus Ever

Graphic designer Joe Kowalski gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into creating what some consider the best video game menu ever made.

While I might not have been overly fond of Brutal Legend's mix of action and strategy game play, I'd say the opening menu is indeed one of the greatest menus in the history of video games. I'd proclaim it the very best, like Giant Bomb did last year, but that would just start a giant commenting flame war, and I'm not here to start a war.

Definitely Brutal Legend. It fit the theme perfectly.

Absolutley loved the Brutal Legend Menu, best menu I've ever seen!!

Funny thing about the Brutal Legend menu, is that the intro to it, where Jack Black is talking in the street, appears to be filmed in the same location as the 'Captain Ed's Records' scenes from the Tenacious D HBO shorts. Awesome.

Definitely a great menu, and one of the better games that wasn't noticed much. I'd love a sequel. And the storyline was a cracker. :)

I have no experience of the Brutal Legend menu, but I'm going to say the Metroid Prime series had some seriously kickass menus.
