George Lucas Said No To A Wookie Superhero Game

The story propelling Lucasart’s Force Unleashed is one of apprenticeship, Imperial cleavage, good and evil. It could have been about a wookie superhero, which would have been awesome, but no, George Lucas nixed that idea.

In the latest issue of GamePro, developers Haden Blackman and Julio Torres remember the heady days of 2005, when the team was coming up with ideas on where/when to set Force Unleashed.

“At one point we were kicking around an idea where you were playing a Wookie,” says Blackman. “It was going to be a big open world, and you’d be running around, and you’d be able to grab the heads of AT-STs and throw them at stormtroopers. It was a very over the top-style superhero game.”

But no. Blackman says Lucas himself turned that idea down, insisting that the game “needed to focus on character interaction and dialog”. Right, the two things Star Wars does worst. Way to go, George.

  • Seriously, why would you want to play as a walking carpet? In this case (and ONLY this case) I’m gonna have to side with George… I mean the dialogue would have been like: Vader:”I need you to destroy the emporer” Wookie: “Raaaahraawaah” Vader:”Huh?” Wookie:”Raaahhwaaraaa!!” Vader:”*sigh… forget it. *sob Padme… PADME!!”
The concept behind Starkiller was much better… even if the game itself was barely playable.

  • I’m going to argue the “Imperial cleavage”.

Juno is wearing a t shirt under her jacket, unfortunately.

  • ” “needed to focus on character interaction and dialog”. Right, the two things Star Wars does worst.”

Sorry, anyone play KotOR, or just me?

  • They could make another non-Force Unleashed game with a Wookie Main Character. It would be a 3rd peron action game with ripping the heads of droids and soldiers and such. Though I would not want a wookie jedi, Just a big wookie warrior who smashes stuff.
