Sid Meier’s Pirates! Sets Sail For The Wii

Nintendo can't seem to escape the reach of piracy, especially now that one of game industry legend and this week's Kotaku Talk Radio guest Sid Meier's most beloved games is making its way to the Wii later this year.

Sid Meier's Pirates! first hit to stormy seas of PC gaming back in 1987, when it won several game of the year awards and captured the hearts of countless pirates, both imaginary and computer-related. In 2004, Firaxis released an updated version for PCs and consoles that did quite well for itself.

Now it's the Nintendo Wii's turn, with 2K China handling development duties on the point and waggle version of the classic game. Players will participate in ship combat, fencing, and a fair bit of wooing as they struggle to save their family from the evil Marquis de la Montalban in the 17th century Caribbean. Wii players will be treated to two platform-exclusive mini-games as well, Bombardment and Lock Picking, two skills every growing pirate should master.

"We are big fans of the Wii and think Pirates! is the perfect game to bring to that platform," said Sid Meier, director of creative development at Firaxis Games, and designer of the Sid Meier's Pirates! series. "We're sure Wii fans will enjoy the timeless adventure of being a pirate captain on the high seas as much as all of our other fans have!"

Who doesn't enjoy the timeless adventure of being a pirate captain on the high seas? Are there people that don't? Can we set up special camps for those people?
