The Next Guitar Hero Will Send You On A Legendary Quest

Guitar Hero is changing course with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, a music game with some unexpected additions, including a story-driven quest mode that involves a group of heavy metal warriors seeking a legendary guitar and a battle with The Beast.

The newest issue of Nintendo Power reveals Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, in development at Neversoft and Vicarious Visions. Neversoft’s Brian Bright tells the official Nintendo mag that the sixth major entry in the Guitar Hero series will focus more on “shredding” rock and roll, less on the inclusion of broader music from artists like Stevie Wonder and Elton John.

Instead expect a quest mode, telling an "otherworldly tale, narrated by KISS frontman Gene Simmons". Here's how it goes...

"The Beast defeats the demigod of rock and the demigod of rock is entombed in stone and his legendary guitar is banished," Bright said. "[The guitar]is the source of his power. And so you are going through and assembling an army of warriors to be able to defeat the beast. Along the way, you'll have to recover the legendary guitar…"

Huh....

  • Story mode? Yeah, that’s gonna work…

Guitar Hero has lost almost all interest for me. And the peripherals just keep taking up space.

    • So this is what Activision were trying to turn Brutal Legend into.

If thats the case i’m damn glad they didn’t

  • It could be fun if it worked… but I’m pretty happy just buying song-packs and having more music to play. Most of the fun of these games is feeling like you are in a band, that is what they should focus on. I remember the first time in Rock Band when we were doing well enough that the crowd started singing, it was a real moment. More stuff like that, make it feel more immersive and real. Maybe the new RockBand will be the go, I’m interested to see how the keyboards will work.

  • So, it will basically be the same as the career mode in Guitar Hero III, but with “The Beast” instead of “The Devil”?

    • This was my first thought too. Seems they’re realising that GH3 was the most sucessful of their recent stuff and going back to it. When I’m playing a guitar I’d like to bang out some killer rock. Elton John, I’d pass on, thanks.

  • A poor GH campaign story in which you eventually fight God and the Devil?

Sounds familiar…almost like Activision have already done this…

  • “heavy metal warriors seeking a legendary guitar and a battle with The Beast”

Yeah, this is NOTHING like “Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny”, NOOOOOO…
