Uncharted Movie Could Go Forward With An Unlikely Director

Who will direct the big screen adaptation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune? The LA Times reports that the film’s producers and Sony, the studio backing the flick, have a short list of favourites that includes David O. Russell. Who’s that?

You may know him best as the director of Gulf War drama Three Kings or comedies Flirting With Disaster and I ♥ Huckabees. Or you may simply know him as the dude who likes to get into physical and verbal spats with his cast, his crew and his peers. Here’s a classic video of Russell and Lily Tomlin exchanging a litany of f-bombs on the set of I ♥ Huckabees.

The LA Times’ report notes that Sony seems pretty pleased with the Uncharted script that new screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer delivered.

As long as the movie is packed with wall-to-wall platforming and accurately half-tucked thermal shirts, we’ll be thrilled. If there’s some explosive behind the scenes footage of a director roughing up his Nathan Drake, even better.

Spanking the ‘Drake’? David O. Russell on producers’ list for popular video game adaptation [LA Times]

  • This is gonna be crap. If there is any game film to result in crap, it is this one. The game was amazingly cinematic on it’s own, and no directors or writers can bring half of it to the big screen, especially not from a script by a duo who wrote ‘Sahara’ for f*** sake. David O. Russell is good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s too much of an ask (especially if the script dooms him from the beginning).

And who cares if Sony’s pleased. They could be pleased because the script looks like typical blockbuster tripe that will make millions.

    • I love tripe, even if it’s tripe with Cheese… 😉

We all know that Game to Movie adaptions don’t generally work. But surely we can seperate the two? By the time it gets to the cinema the Uncharted movie won’t follow the direct story line of either game and should be able to enjoy the thrill ride it will be!

Also, Nathan Fillion as Drake or GTFO! :p

  • Why watch the movie, when you can play the game?

Game to film hardly ever works. You’re better off spending your valuable time playing the game, even for the films that turn out alright.
