What's New About Nintendo's New Wii Remote?

Over the past few weeks, a new version of Nintendo's Wii Remote controller was tested and ruled totally compliant by the FCC. What has changed about the device that gives the Wii its waggle?

Well, the model number has changed from RVL-003 to RVL-036, but thanks to the confidentiality letter request from the applicant, Hon Hai Precision - which may be better known Foxconn - we'll have to speculate for now. The wireframe image doesn't tell us much other than "Hey, that's a Wii Remote!" but speculation from Engadget that this may be a Wii Remote with the MotionPlus add-on built-in sounds about right.

Why? We'll we're just a few weeks away from E3. Nintendo introduced the Wii MotionPlus accessory at the show two years prior, right around the time developers said they were thinking about ways to integrate the device into the standard Wii Remote. That's something third-party controller makers have already figured out.

Nintendo also plans on showing the new Legend of Zelda game for the Wii at E3, which may very well require the use of Wii MotionPlus to play. Nintendo recently launched a new Wii bundle that includes Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort, perhaps signaling more aggressive support for the accessory.

So. Wii Remote with Wii MotionPlus standard? Sound right to you?

Pity those who own the original wiimote but not wiimote plus, they will now be forced to purchase a wiimote gen2 or wiimote plus.

Pity those who own an iPod but don't own an iPhone because now they have to purchase an iPhone if they want to enjoy the new functionality?

      No.

That argument doesn't work. If you want new stuff, buy new stuff and enjoy the benefits of a few years of newer tech. If you are happy with your old stuff, stick to your old stuff. I don't see the issue or the call for pity here.

An iphone is like a whole new platform compared to an Ipod. You're not making an accurate comparison to the wii motion plus situation, you're basically saying is like having a Gamecube and complaining you have to buy a Wii to play the new games, they werent designed for the same things. The Wii is all one platform, and the wii motion plus is just an annoying addon that is necessary to play it. If it was optional, like wheels in racing games, or the old rumble shirt, fine, but it's required to play, making it as annoying as the old N64 expansion pack.

Its like the N64 expansion pak all over again

This is something that should have been included in the original Wii remote from day one. until I sold my Wii I had almost a small box full of peripherals and controllers (3 remotes, 2 nunchucks, 2 wheels, 2 guns, a Gamecube controller and a classic controller).

Then there's the DS. How many versions of that have we had (Phat, lite, DSi, and DSi XL)

Stop trying to make people buy gimmicky things they don't need Nintendo, just stop!

Speak with your wallets Wii owners by not buying this.

Well, except if Nintendo's position is true on this matter people would have instead been complaining about how expensive the wiimotes are. In any case I dodn't find it all that much of an issue.

I got Sports resort with an extra motion plus on launch so it didn't cost much extra altogether. My issue is more the lack of games actually using, let alone requiring it. Then there's also my impression that the motion plus doesn't seem to add that much more sensitivity.

If they had of included it since day one, how would they have been able to sell all the interims in crap before hand?
Dont act surprised, Nintys been on the hardware leech for quite a while now. Just be thankful the controls dont fall apart due to use, or because a certain game told you to spin sticks like a retard on crack.

Sounds like a smart idea. Hopefully they have a new Starfox there for me too.

itd be cool if you could trade in old wii motes for the new one (thats if it has motion plus in it of course)

"Forced"? By who? Which of the three games that needs MotionPlus to play is bullying you? I'll have a word with their mother.
