MotorStorm 3 Goes Post-Apocalyptic?

The French site PS3Gen claims to have gotten its hands on "stolen" images of MotorStorm 3, purporting to show the PS3-exclusive racer set in a San Francisco of collapsed buildings and raging fires.

Quite a departure from the series first three iterations, which set loose the fleet of cars, trucks and things that go in fragile ecosystems in the Utah desert, a Pacific island, and the Arctic. That appears to be a building mid-collapse. Another shows pedestrians scattering across your path, so maybe the game will feature courses that change or get blocked off, in addition to the myriad shortcuts it usually tosses up.

I gave the obligatory whats-up to SCEA but Sony's already given the refusal of comment on rumour and speculation to PS3Gen. Meantime, put your powers of keen observation to work. Does this pass the smell test? Are these images of another racer altogether?

I don’t know what to make of this. The HUD on the original photos looks like a dodgy Photoshop job. But maybe that’s just because the game is in development. A post apocalyptic theme would certainly lend itself well to punishing tracks and nice crashes. Who knows, let’s just wait till E3.

Damn I wanted the outback, the original post-apocalypse with cars.

too close to the original desert theme of the first

A city was my idea when thinking what could motorstorm do next, so its very likely IMO

Well I'm disappointed. The joy and appeal of the first two was the way the vehicles conformed over the environment and the way different terrains affected you; muddy tracks, rivers, high narrow path and dense rainforests don't exist in grey and brown post-apocalyptic cities (Unless its like "Life After Humans").

The most 'human' tracks in Pacific Rift (Sugar Rush and the last parts of Caldera Ridge and Paradise Beach) were usually a mess with their sharp instant crash corners and it was hard to see with all that rusted metal blurring together.

I would have prefered they choose another natural environment, maybe somewhere in Canada or South America where you've got a range of environments like forests, stony and snowy mountains and deserts (for South America only).

    motorstorm 3: San Francisco?

looks a bit like MW2 cross over if you ask me :P
