Portal 2 Delayed To 2011, But Valve Has A Good Reason

Originally slated for release sometime before Christmas 2010, Valve and Aperture Laboratories LLC have decided to push the release back into 2011, because "making games is hard". No, really.

The news comes in the form of a press release titled, "VALVE ANNOUNCES MAKING GAMES IS HARD." That seems fair enough. I mean, I can't do it, and I've tried really, really hard.

According to Aperture, the delay comes after an exhaustive ethics-review-panel-supervised release date restructuring process, indicating the follow-up to the "ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date" would not be ready in time.

Worry not, Portal fans. The combined companies assure us that the delay is safe, that "all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time", and that this will make the game even better, "missing an historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse".

This is also not the Portal 2-themed surprise planned for E3 2010. Just a regular old surprise.

I say the surprise is that they're just going to be giving out cake at E3.

Will a naked Gabe jump out from within said cake?
      *crosses fingers

huzzah! Portal 2 in 1012 real time!

    It could be a joke...
Regardless, the wait will be worth it.

Seriously, Valve is the only developer that pulls off bad news with style.

In fact they do bad news better than some developers do good news.

Bad news is still bad news, even if you sugar coat it.

But its more like only Valve can pull off delaying a game made with last years tech.

Meanwhile, competent developers produce games on time.

Aparently you've not played any Valve made games..

      I pitty you.

That doesn't make valve competent. Durp.

    so episode 3 in 2012

I hate companies announcing games a year before they're out. It's just disappointment. They should be announced when they're actually on a set schedule that shows little to no possibility of delay.

Needless to say, this is upsetting news.

“missing an historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse”

Not sure, but this may have been done allready.

Did Ubisoft delay any of the PC releases to fit DRM?

Well Valve as surprised us once more.
i don't miond waiting, by the E3 videos we've seen that portal 2 will blow us off.

Tought i think we all agree, after portal 2, we need a new half life, its about time for Valve to surprise us with more Gordon Freeman, he's been in stasis for too long.
