H.A.W.X. 2 Looks Deadly, Perhaps Boring

Due out this spring, H.A.W.X. 2 looks like a perfect fit for fans of aerial combat. The question is, are there still enough of those fans around to support a big series like this?

I'm mildly interested in the next H.A.W.X. game, but it seems to be still struggling to find itself. The first title essentially slapped training wheels on a fighter jet. This one seems to rip them off, but it still doesn't seem to be solving how to draw a huge casual audience into a hugely narrow genre. Flight sims and air combat sims aren't made anymore for a reason.

Don't get me wrong, I love those games, especially the old Microprose fighters. But I loved them because it was they sold the experience of learning what all of the buttons in a cockpit did, testing out all of the deadly gadgetry. Stripping all of that away and packing it into a console controller results in a game that bores me to sleep.

Maybe they should ship H.A.W.X. 2 with a 60-button controller, yoke and pedals.

i would so buy it if it had all that. lol

"Maybe they should ship H.A.W.X. 2 with a 60-button controller, yoke and pedals."

How about making it compatible with the Steel Battalion controller?

Holy shit, where do I get one?

If they where willing to ship bulk DLC they could make a HOTAS package and certainly get some buyers.

I found HAWX to basically be a more arcade-y Ace Combat. It was a decent game, but it struggled in the areas that Ace Combat shined.
The characters in Ace Combat are always greatly written and you really care for your squadmates. In HAWX, they were so generic I couldn't even tell my two allies apart.
Plus the closest thing HAWX had to a boss fight was the battleship. It's not like the game had any pretense of realism in the first place, so they could have afforded to add some powerful new technology-type plane bosses into it like AC does. The last mission of HAWX was so damn disappointing I don't even know where to begin.

Hawx 1 didn't impress me, neither does this. Ace Combat was better but still very arcade rather than simulation.

I would like to see a return to proper simulator games where missiles don't magically respawn after thirty seconds and the enemy doesn't rely on numbers or breaking the laws of physics to be a challenge.

    incredibly generic, shitty CG trailer.
