Mark Rein Is Sorry For Being A "Jerk"

So Epic's Mark Rein interrupted a discussion last week at a conference, and got people upset. It made for good theatre at the time, but now the dust has settled, Rein has issued an honest apology.

"I want to apologise," Rein says in an email to Positech's Cliff Harris, the man who last week called him a "jerk". "It was completely rude of me to interrupt your panel with my opinion no matter how well intentioned. I'm supremely passionate about the plight of indie developers, and game developers in general, and I heard something I thought was incorrect advice and I just couldn't keep my big mouth shut."

You hear/see so many fake apologies in this business that it's nice to see a real one, where genuine fault is acknowledged and there's actually a touch of sincerity involved. Well played, Mark Rein, well played.

Exclusive: Mark Rein's indie apology [Develop]

Good for him. I admit that it was strange that Mark Rein, the VP for one of the most indie-friendly companies, Epic Games to take that attitude against an indie developer.

    Glad it was resolved.

Its a jerk apology if you ask me...

Seems like a sincere apologies, however the view he expressed was a jerky one.

You mean this is supposed to be a real apology?
    That was sarcastic, right?

thats not sincere, if it was sincere he wouldnt of added:

"and I heard something I thought was incorrect advice and I just couldn’t keep my big mouth shut.”

he's still saying, your opinion is wrong, but im sorry i spoke up during your panel.

    What a jerk!

"I'm sorry I said that you're wrong and I'm right but all the same, I "am" right and you "are" wrong!"

I don't think it WAS "well-intentioned" when he spoke up like that. It was bad enough that he was talking out of turn in someone else's panel, but he went out of his way to be a jerk about it. If he really wanted to apologise, he shouldn't be making ANY attempts to defend his actions- not that it was well-intentioned, not that he just couldn't help hiumself, nothing.
