Star Control 2! Only ever played this on 3DO myself, but I believe there was a PC version too!

Yep, it’s the PC version. I didn’t actually know it was released on 3DO, but it’s good to hear there was at least one game worth playing on that console!

Haah Pkunk vs the Sa-Matra. I don’t think that poor li’l fella would have lastest too long.

Actually the Pkunk were one of the better ships to use against the Sa-matra, easy strafing runs.
Use to play this for hours in Boarding school in Melee mode. So good.

Pkunk was the key to the Sa-Matra. The side cannons and the occasional resurrection made it the easiest way to get the red shield generators down.

Only ever played the original Star Control in DOS.. so I guess 2?
Does anyone remember the multiplayer mode in the original where you had that map – can’t really remember the details but you could get resources and everything. Nostalgia tells me it was pretty badarse.

Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters, on PC. I’m hoping that Pkunk is about to pull a “hallelujah” and reincarnate itself.
Thank you David for showing one of the Greatest Games of All Time. I have yet to see a game which mixed humour, action, RPG, exploration, adventure gaming, factional politics, multiple conversation paths and a whole bunch of hidden extras the way that game did.
The graphics dated, but the gameplay didn’t, if anyone wants to play it, it is now freeware as The Ur-Quan Masters and available at http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

I’ve also realised how much this game has inspired portions of Mass Effect, like the planetary descriptions and arguably the navigation around planetary systems. There’s also a little bit in the Mining Minigame, but actually getting to pilot a Lander round a Hostile planet and avoiding the environment while picking up minerals and shooting biologicals into containment pods was the absolute opposite of Mass Effect 2 Mining, it was actually fun =)

One of the most entertaining and brilliantly unique games I ever played and the music rocked!

I remember completing that game, but on subsequent plays I never could find that Ilwrath cloaking device.
