Xbox 360, Virtual Girlfriend Games Are So Hot In Japan Right Now

Wha...? An Xbox 360 game at the top of the Japanese sales charts? Sounds a bit kooky, right until we specify that that Xbox 360 game is a Monster Hunter title, the only game powerful enough to defeat Love Plus+.

Yes, Monster Hunter Frontier did big numbers in its debut week in Japan, moving more than 90,000 copies in its first days on the market. Hey, they're not Monster Hunter 3 numbers, but cut Frontier some slack! It's not on the Wii, y'know.

And yes, Love Plus+, the virtual girlfriend sim for the Nintendo DS did just fine if you're wondering, joining more PSP adventure games and dating simulations in the Media Create top 10. Former chart topper Super Mario Galaxy 2 is still in there. The chart is just flooded with new debuts, many of which you'll never play unless you have command over the Japanese language.

Monster Hunter on 360? Yes please for western man!

It's an MMO linked to the PC game of the same title. Sub cost is 15 bucks a month in Japan but that 15 also includes XBL gold.

Capcom have made numerous comments about them not having the offices to run an MMO in the west and the fact that since it's not a true MMO, a lot of westerners would be very iffy about paying for it.

I guess maybe they could bring it out here as free 2 play and charge for every update? Might be more effort than it's worth though, don't think MHTRI did overly well sales wise in the west.

I just wish more westerners realised the true beauty of a Monster Hunter game. Maybe then it would be possible...

Well Monster Hunter Tri also has a sub in Japan and is considered an "MMO", I mean MMO is thrown around so liberally by retarded game sites without ever knowing what the word means. Monster Hunter for 360 or Wii is not an MMO. Most likely what will happen is when it does go west it will be multiplatform and lose the sub.

Pity we won't be seeing monster hunter here :(

I think it's done alright in Aus Riavan.
