Italian-American Group Claims Victory In Making Mafia II Party Lame

UNICO National, the group representing Italian-Americans upset over the portrayal of Italian gangsters in the recently released Mafia II, have scored a win in their battle against 2K Games' mobster adventure. They claim to have unquestionably pooped their launch party.

Andre DiMino, spokesperson and man upset by Mafia II, says that the group's protest against the 2K Czech-developed game is directly responsible for the New York launch event being nothing more than "a sparse group of mostly young people".

"I have no doubt our efforts resulted in the Mafia II Launch Party, at the 92nd Street Y's Tribeca Center, being a dismal failure." DiMino continued, "When we first heard about this marketing event only recently, we went into action, using our resolve to challenge an event whose purpose was to mock the Italian American community by promoting the new video game Mafia II."

Alright, maybe not the victory they were originally hoping for - that parent company Take-Two would "halt release of the game and cleanse it of all references to Italians and Italian-Americans" - but no one likes a lame party.

Andre DiMino makes Italian Americans look a lot worse than Mafia 2 does. Why so serious?

theres some idiots around. im italian and it makes perfect sense that a game called "mafia" would feature italians.
its like anything. minority groups want to kick up a stink everytime a game or movie comes out.
look at kingdom of heaven. muslims kicked up a stink saying the movie portrayed them as savages. well in the movie i saw the muslims were actually being very diplomatic about the whole situation and it was the catholics being the ruthless and brutal ones.
300 had similar problems. again xerxes was actually being civil about it.
people need to just shut up and get over stuff unless something is directly and openly racist or offensive then have something to say.

I didn't see these people complaining about the sopranos or complaining about the godfather

They did protest HBO/The Sopranos. I'm not sure how they felt about The Godfather but I'd assume they dislike it for the same reason they dislike Mafia II. Their biggest claim to fame in recent times seems to be their protest of Jersey Shore. I've got to admit I can understand their beef with that show. They've essentially just rounded up a bunch of stereotypes and made a freakshow.

They don't seem to have any anti-gaming agenda here, they just seem to be going after people they see as exploiting negative Italian-American stereotypes. I don't agree with their choice here but they seem to have pretty noble goals in general.

He's aware the word mafia... mafioso... is italian in nature and origin right??? Knob...

"DiMino continued, “When we first heard about this marketing event only recently, we went into action, using our resolve to challenge an event whose purpose was to mock the Italian American community by promoting the new video game Mafia II.”" ----- Sounds like a mob tactic to me ;)

    "... mostly young people..."

Was he expecting geriatrics to attend a videogame launch?

We should get him in contact with Michale Atkinson, they'd have a field day together making stupid issues into world breaking news.

Seriously, thats just lame. I didn't hear any groups pipe up about Yakuza?

Does anyone honestly think poorly of Italians or Italian-Americans because of Mafia stories? (The Godfather, The Sopranos, Mafia game franchise, Scarface (the original one from 1932, not the Pacino one) etc.)

Because I for one don't think all Itialians are mobsters or gangsters. It seems to me people can't seperate fantasy from reality, that's the problem.

So... Man of Italian descent takes offense to the portrayal of Italian mobsters in a particular period, a portrayal that has long since become the stereotype for criminals stemming from his particular ethnicity.

Is he a mobster? I don't think he really has grounds to be offended at the depiction of the Italian mob unless he is a part of said mob.

Yes I'm ignorant but I like to boil things down into bite sized pieces.

Take that! Your party isn't as great as it would have been! VICTORY IS OURS!

Andre DiMino - doing more to promote a negative stereotype than any videogame ever will. What a retard.
