Let's Just Call The Weekly Japanese Hardware Battle Even

The battle for weekly console dominance in Japan, where Sony and Nintendo, not Microsoft, rule the roost, was a wash. Even Steven. Neck and neck. Dead heat. OK, Nintendo did have a little bit of a lead.

The battle of the Nintendo family versus the PlayStation family was pretty close though. 61,259 consoles and handhelds were sold on the Sony side, 61,946 consoles and handhelds on the Nintendo side. If only the PSPgo had sold double what it did this past week (a rather meager 700 units), we'd have a different outcome.

Let's do the hardware numbers (for the week of August 2 to 8, according to Media Create).

  • PSP - 30,397
  • PlayStation 3 - 28,630
  • Nintendo DSi LL - 21,018
  • Nintendo DSi - 18,318
  • Wii - 18,238
  • Xbox 360 - 5,639
  • Nintendo DS Lite - 4,372
  • PlayStation 2 - 1,524
  • PSPgo - 708

Nintendo can't deny that the wii is starting to fall a bit. That's a bit different this week with the dsi and the xl being so close in sales. Usually the xl is out in front by a bigger margin.

I'd still like to know what the Japanese find so appealing about the psp so late in it's lifespan? That thing has a fair few system sellers in japan I guess.

games like god eater, kingdom hearts, monster hunter persona 3 were all pretty big system sellers for the PSP recently.

There are many other games that get released in japan on the PSP that we don't even get over here that could be considered system sellers as well.

Lol ofcourse Nintendo is going to start lossing alot of income most of it came from the Wii but now that Almost every house hold on the planet that can afford a wii probaly has one there isnt much market the DS is going to have to be there major income earner as well as Nentendo Owned Games Titles
