Getting Shot: A 103-Second Retrospective

What's it look like to get shot in a video game? The portrait of pain has been changing over the years. We took a bullet in 18 years' worth of games to bring you this montage.

Isn't it amazing how getting shot has evolved over the years in video games? We've gone from a grunting face to blood splattered screens in less than two decades. Nowadays you can almost feel the impact of every projectile. Hell, if your force-feedback is good enough, you actually can.

With the exception of Halo 3 (my disc was too scratched to play), every one of the 42 games in this video was played by yours truly. It's been a very busy month. The first person to name all 42 games in order gets to brag about it.

And for those of you counting, the 103 seconds isn't including titles.

I'll take a stab: Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Doom 2, Marathon (XBLA port?), Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Turok, GoldenEye 007, Quake II, Unreal, SiN, Unreal Torunament, Quake 3 Arena, Perfect Dark (XBLA port again?), Daikatana, don't know but probably a follow-up to GoldenEye, Serious Sam, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Unreal II, Call of Duty, XIII, Unreal Tourney 2K4, Counter-Strike, Half-Life 2, F.E.A.R., Call of Duty 2, The Darkness, Medal of Honor: Airborne, Halo 3, Crysis, Soldier of Fortune 3, Unreal Tournament 3 (in 4:3??), Far Cry 2 (David must be rubbing off on Mike Fahey), Call of Duty: World at War, FEAR 2: Project Origin, Battlefield 1943, Wolfenstein: Nobody Cared Edition, The 7th WWII Shooter in this Video, Modern Warfare 2 (Black Ops in the Bazaar mission?), STALKER: Call of Pripyat, Bad Company 2 (lol Steam message), and don't have a clue... Resistance 2?

Fair effort. Also, nice work on putting the video together.

Hah! The first 5-7 examples all look really different and then everything starts to look the same.

Noticed that as well. Around about the time of the Call Of Duties and Medal of Honours, the FPS palate turned to brown and grey. The only real exception i saw was UT3, maybe Halo 3
