Just To Be Clear — NBA Jam's Wii Version Has No Online Multiplayer

Not shocking news, but apparently it hadn't been put on the record yet, and some folks were wondering if NBA Jam for the Wii would have online multiplayer support over the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. Answer: No.

EA Sports Vancouver confirmed it today, but I swear I'd heard it before. Maybe it's because of the Wi-Fi connection's poor reputation for this sort of thing that I assumed it wouldn't be supported. NHL Slapshot, the Wii hockey title also made by EA Vancouver, also does not have online multiplayer. That said, EA Sports' current Wii versions of Madden NFL, FIFA, Tiger Woods PGA Tour and last year's Grand Slam Tennis do.

Online multiplayer is absolutely a feature of the NBA Jam version that comes free with a one-use download code in retail copies of NBA Elite 11 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. However, that version will not have the Remix Tour, which supplies boss battles and unique challenges in single and - local - cooperative multiplayer modes.

All versions of the game will use the same lineup of players, secret characters, and NBA Legends.

Is there any way to get this on PS3/360 without buying NBA Elite? I love NBA Jam, but I have no interest in Elite.

I guess I could take the EB option and buy Elite, take it home, redeem the code then return the game for a refund. That that'd be unsporting for the poor bugger who came along next and bought that returned copy of Elite :P

I'm thinking the exact same thing. EB games return policy seems like the only way to get it. Not that I like doing that type of thing, but EA leaves us no option. I wonder if EB games knows what is going to happen and somehow not let the return NBA Elite. Because I can imagine they will get LOTS of returns the day after release.

Classic, and people get cut-up about piracy!

Be careful on some games though, GAME were starting to get an idea and starting not allowing returns on some games.

Obviously they are advising customers before purchase, but for some of the games that have the Online Pass code, they were saying they will not refund the game, but you would have to trade the game back to them instead.

Do you trade it back for 100% of its value, or just the regular trade in value? I could still trade it back for 100% and just use the credit to buy the next game that I actually want.

This is just stupid - why not release it as a standalone game over XBL/PSN? Wouldn't surprise me if they do just that 3-6 months after Elite comes out i.e. once the initial sales rush is over.

This might or might not be known, but do we know if NBA Jam will be separate from Elite (i.e. we definitely WILL NOT need the game disc to play it)?

If I was working at EA and was concerned about this, I would definitely make it an extra accessible from in-game only, like DLC.

Yea, I dont think they do this at EB or GAME with the games that have codes. No 7 Day return for these games I Believe, could be wrong. A mate was told at the point of sale for UFC 2010 there was no 7 day return policy due to the one-time only use code. Could be wrong though....

Ok well if you can't return NBA Elite and you can't get NBA Jam without Elite. I'll sit this one out. Maybe in 2 years when it's $10 they can have my money an I can throw Elite in the bin after using the code... I'll be playing NBA 2K11 while I'm waiting for the 2 years to pass! Bam!
