Report: German Paper Dates Nintendo 3DS

This week, Nintendo is slated to make the Nintendo 3DS's release date public. German newspaper Bild claims to have the jump on the release info.

According to Bild, the Nintendo 3DS will go on sale in Japan on November 11. It will then "probably" go on sale in Europe in the first quarter of 2011 and is priced at €200. Release info. for North America is not mentioned.

Bild also lists launch titles for the Nintendo 3DS: Mario Kart 3D, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle.

It is worth noting the Bild is the biggest selling newspaper in Europe. It is also a tabloid and isn't exactly noted for backing up every story it prints. In this article, the paper bluntly gives the release date as fact without alluding to where the information came from.

Apparently, the paper did correctly mention the Wii Remote before Nintendo president Satoru Iwata debuted the controller in the Tokyo Game Show keynote speech.

Previously, a former employee of a Japanese peripheral company dated the Nintendo 3DS for November 11 in The Land of the Rising Sun, while an American website is claiming to have the portable's specs.

no way i dont want to wait untill next year come on nintendo you got to get in before xmas

Japan will get it before xmas. The rest of the world can suck it? That's the Nintendo spirit and I doubt it is changing, the concept of simultaneous localisation is completely lost on them.

The more important question on my mind is if it will remain region-free.

Nintendo's been one of the best when it's come to 'global' launches. The DS launched late November in the US (before Japan even) and came out in Europe early March.

The Wii was released in North America before anywhere else, too, if I recall correctly.

what colours are being released need the purple one

I'm calling BS on at least some aspects of this - Ocarina of Time 3D as a launch title? Nintendo haven't even formally announced it yet...

Mask of Miracle as a launch title? A) Unwound Future just came out, B) Specter's Flute isn't anywhere to be seen yet and C) Did anyone else notice how blatantly far away from completion the localised version of Miracle was? I mean, the name isn't even final yet!

MAYBE Miracle Mask will launch with the 3DS in Japan, that'd be understandable as they've been working on the Japanese version for quite a while, but I can almost guarantee that won't be an English launch title.

In fact this probably explains why the 3DS will be released later in the West - NoA still has several regular DS aces up their sleeve, they don't want to release them after the 3DS, thus making them seem redundant. Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute (although tecnically a Level-5 release) and of course the behemoths that are Pokemon Black/White Version(s) - maximise profit on these by releasing them before the 3DS, methinks.

This is the second 'major' outlet to claim that the 3DS is coming in Japan in November, sounds like it might be legitimate.

      Assuming they're not
      A) Sharing sources
      B) Simply re-using each others' stories.

Happens all the time in journalism. And as noted, this is a tabloid, while Nov 11 for Japan sounds reasonable, I'd take it with a huge grain of salt.
