F.E.A.R. 3 Will Be Out In March

The co-op-oriented third F.E.A.R. game will be released on March 22, which we’re probably being told today by the game’s publisher because Halloween is on Sunday.

Into the spring F.E.A.R. 3 goes. Day 1’s sequel to the creepy first-person shooter series known for its enemy characters’ impressive artificial intelligence will get to compete for your dollars against the likes of heavyweight February 2011 shooters Killzone 3 and Bulletstorm.

A new trailer hypes the game:

Publisher Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment will try to goose those ever-important (for business people) preorder numbers by offering some incentives if gamers preorder the game. You get a 12-page F.E.A.R. 3 comic written by 30 Days of Night co-creator Steve Niles if you preorder at Amazon. You get an in-game weapon called the “Shredder” – “like a fire breathing dragon in your hand” – if you preorder at Best Buy. You get a gun called “The Hammer” – “A few less rounds per clip is an easy trade off for almost twice the damage!” – if you preorder at Gamestop.

If you don’t preorder, all you get is F.E.A.R. 3 on the day it comes out or some time after. Hopefully that’s a good option too.

  • Ok, seriously, co-op? In a horror-action game? Really?

I mean, I don’t know about anyone else, but I enjoyed FEAR 1 and 2 because of the atmosphere and the creepiness and the sneaking around in anticipation of the next surprise.

On the other hand, every single co-op FPS I’ve ever played, EVER, has consisted of me and my friend(s) trying to run each other over in vehicles, push each other off cliffs (“hey! come look at this!” *melee to the back*), teabagging each other’s corpse, etc etc etc.

Basically, THE EXACT OPPOSITE EXPERIENCE that I want from a FEAR game. :/
