Job Listing Causes Further Final Fantasy Versus XIII Speculation

At the 2008 gaming expo in Los Angeles, Square Enix dropped a bombshell: Final Fantasy XIII, previously believed to be a PS3 exclusive, was headed for the Xbox 360. Could the same be in store for Final Fantasy Versus XIII?

Final Fantasy Versus XIII designer Tetsuya Nomura has stated repeatedly that Versus XIII is a PS3 exclusive. Previously, it was revealed that Square Enix was "looking into" a multi-platform Final Fantasy Versus XIII release. Square Enix Yoichi Wada later tweeted, "What was said at the investors meeting was only that until the official announcement is made everything about all titles is pending."

Today, Square Enix posted a job listing for a Final Fantasy Versus XIII "Battle Planner". Listed in the job requirements are the following requirements: experience developing a 3D action game, knowledge and experience in both level and battle design and "development experience on a PS3 or Xbox 360 package title".

The inclusion of "or Xbox 360 package title" is leading to speculation online that Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be a multi-platform title just like Final Fantasy XIII.

When Square Enix revealed that FFXIII would be released on the Xbox 360, the company stated that it would be a PS3 exclusive in Japan. The game will finally be released on the Xbox 360 in Japan this December.

It wasn't the linear nature of FF13 that made me hate it so, most Bioware RPG's are linear and I love those, it was the turn based combat.

I hope this makes it to the 360.

After FFXIII, I think there are a lot of people that no longer give a toss WHAT platform(s) it is or isn't coming to.

I didn't think you could out do F.F "Ten-Two" (X-2) for a completely stupid sequel title.

    CONGRATULATIONS "Versus Thirteen"!

I think the Versus is the latin meaning not the english.

In other news, yay I can buy it now! Woo HOO!!!

Its not a sequel... It's a different title all together. As to why it bares the FFXIII title, I'm guessing they just used the same engine they had for FFXIII, graphically, and reskinned it. The combat is supposedly real-time.

Its because there are 4 or 5 games set in the same universe as 13

The XIII games are all part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series which is just games that share the same mythos - they don't even use the same universe.

^ It's not a sequel, FFV13 is it's own game. They should've just dropped the roman numerals in it because it just makes it confusing but the only link is that the game revolves around crystals much like the other. If you think that's bad, should check out Dissidia's sequel name. *shudders*

Maybe I'm being selfish but... that sucks royally!!!

I bought a PS3 for a reason and the reasons that I can brag about having a PS3 are diminishing every year... FF now on xbox, MGS now on xbox, bioshock (very late to the PS3)... I know we are getting mass effect 2 but where is our gears of war.

I'd love to see stats on the platform exclusives per platform

MGS4 and God of War are still exclusives, I think there was something else too...Heavy Rain...

I was in the same predicament and when I heard 13 was going Multi I went with Xbox cos its cheaper and I got to play Lost odyssey, Blue Dragon and Mass Effect, all games which are WAY better than 13.

Also I can play the xbox originals I missed because I went PS2. SW KotOR 1&2, Jade Empire and Conker all of which are WAY better than 13.

true true, I was a bit peeved and not thinking straight but there is also uncharted 2, killzone and resistance. I just would have liked to keep final fantasy in playstation world... sony should just buy them like ms did with Rare.

Funnily enough I do have an xbox360 but dont use it since it RRoD on me.

          The Last Guardian.

I hereby declare this conversation officially closed.

I agree that is another one.

            See? Not all bad.

            I only own a 360 and I shed a tear everytime someone mentions MGS4.

Aw..... just get it done already. I get the feeling that the next generations of consoles' nearly done in development before the best titles of the xbox 360, ps3 etc comes out.

I think monetarily it's a stupid idea NOT to go multi. What are fans gonna do? Not buy the game in protest?
    I don't think so.

Exactly. The days of the 3rd party exclusive are pretty much over. The only exclusives you'll see going forward are 1st party ones, timed 3rd party exclusives when a platform holder pays for it, or games that are exclusive for technical reasons (e.g. something that required something only available on one platform e.g. BluRay storage or Kinect or whatever).

I'm fine with this going multiplatform I guess, but really, can this not go both fricken ways yet!? Where the hell is Metro 2033 for PS3? There didn't seem to be any exclusive deal with Microsoft of that thing...

Likewise, can Ubi maybe get heir head out of their asses now and send Conviction our way? I'll gladly give over more Tetsuya Nomura mediocrity in favour of Metro...
