So, Why Was LittleBigPlanet 2 Delayed?

Big-hitting PS3 sequel LittleBigPlanet 2 has been delayed until 2011. Why? It's all about the patches.

The first game needed a patch or two around release to get things in order, and that's something developers would like to avoid second time around, particularly since not everyone who owns a PlayStation 3 is connected to the PlayStation Network.

"We respect people don't have online and don't want to patch their game to get the full experience", Media Molecule's Alex Evans told VG247. "We could have shipped it and it would have been fine, however we realised that with just a couple of extra week's we could make the game super amazing, adding the super onto the already amazing which exists today."

Disappointing, but we appreciate the honesty!

I'm on the other side of the fence, I'm glad Sony aren't being dicks and making them release the game at the earliest possible timeframe. I'm online so it doesn't really bother me, but there are too many games released now which fit under the "release now, patch later" blanket.

I'm sure there will still be patches for the game, I'll guarantee the game won't still have a bug or two and they will probably the first to admit it also, but I'm glad they are looking to make sure it's as "fixed" as possible.

well just to fill in the third category I'll play the devil's advocate:

I think this could be seen as there are quality issues with the game and they want to spend more time trying to improve quality, so they are using "bugs" as a catch all excuse...?

I think I'm thinking along the same lines as you.. if I got what you were saying.

I read this as 'we found a bunch of bugs and knew we couldn't fix them before release, so we had to delay. But really we're doing this for you guys, not because we pre-maturely posted a release date'

Not that I especially blame them for having to push back release, and I do prefer that they fix these before launch.
