Black Ops Dev: Glitchers Are 'Douche-Bags'

David Voderhaar is not a happy guy. The design director for Call of Duty: Black Ops' multiplayer is busy dealing with the baffling lag problem in the PC version, so please stop "twit-bombing" him with video of glitches and exploits.

"I'm not going to talk about it publicly," an obviously pissed Voderhaar said in the Black Ops forums (which are down for maintenance at the moment. "We are disinterested in making mini-celebrities out of douche-bags. You better think twice before you glitch."

Voderhaar is more than a little ticked off at the culture of being the first to glitch or exploit the latest Call of Duty game and the online bragging behind it. "I got Twitbombed today from dozens of people with the same two links," Vonderhaar wrote. "What many of these people want is to be Internet nerd famous. I'm not going to make them famous and you shouldn't either. Internet hysteria from normal people is exactly what they want and that's how many people reacted today. You gave them exactly what they want."

He said if it were his call, he'd banhammer "anyone who thinks he is clever by abusing any glitches. Good thing I don't have the opportunity that often and we actually have a constructive, measured, and well-managed live ops team."

Voderhaar did thank those who "sent in polite, constructive messages without the hysterics". For glitches that are reproducible issues, Voderhaar promised Treyarch would hotfix or patch "just like we said we would".

lol, it gets annoying so i know how he'd feel.

    LOL I like his attitude

When will the patch come out? It's the only thing stopping me from an early purchase.

The system they have in place they can hotfix on the fly in playlist updates. No more MS/Sony certification delays.

360 has received 3 or 4 sets of glitch fixes in the first week.

Here's an idea, build a better game where they can't.

What a moron. So these people discover the glitches that his test team was too lazy to discover themselves, and when they try to send them in to him, he calls them douche-bags?

    Screw that guy

Well remembering that the original team left because of the abuse from activision. its a miracle that the game is even "good" at all.

"his test team was too lazy to discover themselves"

it's interesting seeing on various forums when the 'they should have tested it properly' arguments come up, since I wonder how many of the issues are caused by 'hmm.. we never thought to try combining these two perks that affect the same stats' compared to the broader 'okay.. it looks like redheads who set their system clock to July 3rd whilst wearing a waffle as a hat suddenly gain infinite ammo' which represents how many variables just cannot be accurately accounted for under test conditions! (especially with emerging technologies like Kinect - which can make redheads wearing waffle hats an actual calibration issue!)

I have to agree with Steven, he claims that dozens of people sent him links to the same 2 videos? People don't send in a link via twitter to become internet celebrities, they make a video of themselves doing it, put it on the net and claim they were the first to find it.

That man has to win a alpha dog of the week award. Release a bug-ridden game for $100, fuck over your most adoring, hard-core crowd, then call *them* the douche-bags.

All he's gotta do now is not pay the developers...

Ugh, how about you create a AAA game for multiple platforms with zero bugs and then you can go around slamming people.
And at the end of the day it is people like the glitchers and exploiters who are making devs not care about you "Hard Core" PC gamers.

Ugh, how about you not missing the point...they realised a game that has bugs, their fault, not the "hard-core" gamers who purchased a product/service in good faith.

This isn't the point. We know it's impossible to create a game with zero glitches. The point is he's being an arse to the hard-core dedicated fanbase that discovered the glitches

I think you're being a little ignorant if you don't realise that there are other ways of getting the developers to notice certain glitches or bugs without REPEATEDLY posting video of the same thing others have already posted.

It's basically the internet version of 'Are we there yet?'

Yeah, they made the game, perhaps they could've been more thorough, but it doesn't give people the right to act like morons either. I'm sure most of those people who posted their videos have been less than constructive with their criticisms and comments.

Oh, and let's not forget, this IS the internet. Douchebags exist en masse here. He didn't call everyone a douche so don't act like you didn't know this just because you want to make Treyarch look any worse than they really are.

Sorry, But I draw the line at floating apples.

      Goddamn floating apples!

      It cripples my gaming.

Hm. At least there is a ruckus about the problems. Still annoying that Capcom has had no issues so far with not releasing a patch to give Dead Rising 2 wireless Xbox 360 controller support on the PC.

Gaming media need to go further when it comes to telling consumers about bugs in games, or else more developers will continue to let these things slide. Start off by making a giant article about Capcom not supporting PC gamers!

Isn't the whole point of Beta programs is to eliminate glitches such as these and make sure they don't worm their way to launch day?

I don't think it's unprofessional how he behaved. I'm sure he was CONSTANTLY harrassed and 'tweet bombed' until he just snapped.
