CheapSkate Gamer

Obviously you’ve all being praying to the god of gaming deals, because CheapSkate Gamer is BACK!

Steam blew my mind and emptied my wallet this week, and a slew of new releases left many others in the same position. Let’s now try and pick up some change to buy more!

You may notice a new little feature next to each game, and that’s it’s “Buyability” rating. But what does it mean?!

Well, it means that I’m giving each deal a score out of 5 based on how much you should want to prioritise that deal over others. Like it? Don’t like it? Tell me what you think in the comments and suggest an alternative!

PC Digital Download
Alpha Protocol – $7.49 (75% off) – 4/5

Flawed, but brilliant. Truly worth the money.

Deus Ex Collection – $4.99 (75% off) – 5/5

Deus Ex Machina translates to “Ghost in the Machine”. Deus Ex Collection translates to “Ghost in the Collection”. Watch out for those multi-packs…

Devil May Cry 4 – $9.95 (50% off) – 3/5

I cautiously poke these titles from a distance. I gave it a 3/5 because it’s very cheap, not because I had an overly good time with it… I suppose there is an audience though…

F.E.A.R. 1 & 2 – $19.99 (46% off) – 4/5

Apparently one fifth of the numerals we use are quite scary (“fear one and two”)

Lost Planet: Extreme Condition colonies edition – $9.99 (50% off) – 2/5

To be fair, I only played the demo… but when the demo is on PC and it tells you to press the xbox “Y” button, you know something fishy is going on. Something frozen fishy.

Painkiller – $3.49 (50% off) – 4.5/5

The only comparable deals I could find were this and this . (I felt particularly clever when I thought that one up).

Torchlight – $4.99 (75% off) – 4/5

A Diablo clone to the bone, but a good one. A lack of a real story and limited upgrades makes it feel a bit restrained.

Zombie Driver – $4.97 (50%) – 5/5

I was contemplating deducting marks for this game not allowing you to actually be a zombie driver, but running over zombies turned out to be just as good, if not better!

TRON: Evolution pre-order – $34.95 – 3.5/5

I’m not giving this a 5/5 for the simple reason that it’s a movie-tie in… we’ll only find out how good it is when it’s released…

Medieval 2 Total War Gold Edition – $4.99 (50% off) – 3/5

Not the best, not the worst. My score is just some sort of mediocre evaluation of this game compared to other RTS’. (Yes, I reformatted the sentence just to get that reference in!)

The Ball – $10.00 (50% off) – 4.5/5

Oh, the amount of puns I could throw at this one:

– Learning from their mistakes, the developers of The Waltzing Party have made it a bit more focused this time around.

– Only one? Did Lance Armstrong make this game? (harsh, I know)

– An intriguing look into the dystopian societal ranks in Basketball leagues, The Ball is a mature title conveying the torture to which these athletes succumb.

… ok, fine. I’ll stop.

PC Retail Boxes
Nothing of note, unfortunately. I aim to rectify this in the following weeks, so fear not!

Xbox 360
NBA Live 10 – $24.99 – 4/5

Despite being another installation in a yearly sport game franchise, it holds its own really well and turns out to be quite a fun game.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands – $28.79 – 2.5/5

Gameplay-wise, it feels out-of-place on the Xbox. Perhaps my PC fanboyism is shining through here though…

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare GOTY – $19.99 – 4/5

The re-boot of the popular series, Servitude of Almighty Leaderless Males Obsessed with Nukes: Deep In Protest (useewhatididthar?) brings the franchise to a new level as well as a newer time. Whilst MP is probably as dead as an analogy of how dead something really can be, the single player campaign, though short, will make up for it.

PS3
Dante’s Inferno – $33.99 – 4.5/5

A wise man once told me that “When fighting fire with fire, try to remember that the fire department generally uses water”. It’s a solid game which, unfortunately, didn’t seem to garner the attention it deserved.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe – $22.19 – 4/5

Batman . Am I right?

Gran Turismo 5 – $64.99 – 5/5

OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG. I can’t believe it. This is amazing , You Can’t Deny It.

Wii
Madworld – $12.99 – 4/5

“All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out place-e-es…”

Super Smash Bros Brawl – $29.99 – 5/5

If you ever play Wii at parties, this is THE must-have game!

PSP
LittleBigPlanet – $34.40 – 3.5/5

Not as sleek as it’s big brother on the PS3, but still a very fun experience.

DS
Crayola Treasure Adventures – $20.99 – 2.5/5

Probably worth picking up if you have a kid, otherwise, I can’t truly recommend it.

Indies
Gundam RTS – $0.00 – 4/5

GUNDAM! GAME! DOWNLOAD IT!

Invaders: Corruption – $0.00 – 3/5

Treads familiar ground, but makes up for it well!

Mods
Dead Before Dawn Too – L4D2 – 5/5

HL2:Wars Multi-player – Half Life 2 – 5/5

C&C Shockwave – C&C Generals: Zero Hour – 3/5

Am I the only one who’s going broke this week? Do you know of any cheaper or unlisted deals? If so, comment below or on facebook , and tell us where!
