Rumour: Is Uncharted 3 Going To The Desert?

After exploring the South American jungles of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and the Himalayas in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, where will half-tucked treasure hunter Nathan Drake find himself next? According to an informed source, Drake's going to the desert.

The same source that says an Uncharted 3 reveal is due on or around the Spike TV Video Game Awards indicates that the next game in Naughty Dog's PlayStation 3 adventure series will trade Nepalese snow for sun and sand. The deserts of Africa have been a frequently theorised and requested setting for the third Uncharted game - one that would put Drake on a path already travelled by Indiana Jones.

In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indy travelled from the jungles of South America to the snowy mountains of Nepal to the Egyptian desert. Coincidence? Crazed theory? We'll find out where Uncharted 3 will take Drake soon enough, if this rumour is right.

Sony has something to unveil in Hollywood on December 12, so we'll hopefully know something more official about Nathan Drake's future before too long.

the desert is a Far Cry from the previous location

You could say that Uncharted 3 is heating up the desert game play competition. Prepare for a smoking hot game!

I see what you did there ;)

so i guess you could say
      *puts on sunglasses*
This game is gonna be hot

It'll be set in Australian desert of course!

With special guest director... Baz Luhrmann?

preorder incentive: MORE shirtless Hugh Jackman!

Exploring the pyramids would be awesome. They could throw some great battles and traps in them. Next time I would really like to see Atlantis though, that would be sick.

Give me a plot that has Drake finding something Atlantis-esque BENEATH the pyramids and IN a desert and you'll have me rather interested.

Mmmmmm, underwater civilization beneath desert. Yes please.

"Nathan, what did you find in the desert?"

    "Nothing.. it's the desert.."

"I brought you back a present, though. It's a Scorpion and i've already named him 'Kitty'"

    "um... Thanks... I guess"

    Desert... but where?

How about Egypt? The Pyramids? Chases through the markets and over the rooftops of Cairo, then the Valley of the Kings.

I've never been the that part of the world, but it's fascinating. If anyone has ever seen Lawrence of Arabia, some of those jaw dropping landscapes and scenery would make for perfect settings.

    Calling it now...

So the "twist" in this game will be superhuman mummies who have been embalmed with water from the Holy Grail...

You heard it here first! :p

Probably right. Thats the only thing thats disappointed me about the Uncharted universe; the stupid monsters they but in there. Its so freaking predictable and lame. I'd rather keep fighting the human enemies.

i've only played the first one, but the game's plot was pretty good until the whole 'cursed zombies' thing. Sorta tainted it for me.

Better than going to Melbourne I guess.

Or, scale back the shooting abit more... Some of the best bigs of the game are the parts where you aren't shooting but solving environmental puzzles.

Searching the Ice Mountains with Tenzin, the light puzzle in the same game.

Even Uncharted 1, the first temple was all exploration and then the baddies showed up.

It's really 50/50 with people over that, I understand the story behind the Descendants and like the theory behind it, but in practice it wasn't as good. Going through close to 75% through the game, only for it to turn into a kinda old school Resident Evil type game was certainly a shake up that wasn't required.

There is something similar in Uncharted 2 and even though the formula is a winner, I would like to see them try and not have a supernatural type enemy this time around...

comes to think of it, there was a scene in Uncharted which i saw again when watching raiders of the Lost Ark, the part where there is the Nazi submarine later in the game after you leave Elena in the control room and you slide down the pipes. Wouldn't be suprised if the third goes off to Egypt, since its every treasure hunters dream. Sucks Australia has pretty much nothing interesting to get Drake to come downunder

Ancient city burried under Ayers Rock (look on wikipedia for "Uluru" if your not Australian) where aliens made contact with the ancient Aboriginals. Pretty much guaranteed to get banned in this country. Although if your following the Indiana Jones copy-conspiracy then that would have to be the fourth game to line up with Kingdom of The Crystal Skull - can't half tell Spielburg has a small alien obsession can you.
