The Man Who Made Resident Evil Is Making His Last Game

The director of great video games old (Resident Evil) and new (Vanquish) is going to get out of the business of directing games after his next unannounced title. Instead, famed creator Shinji Mikami will be focusing on things more presidential

Mikami tells Japanese game mag Famitsu in a new interview translated by 1UP that after Shadows of the Damned, his demonic action game co-created with Grasshopper Manufacturer, he has one more title on his plate. That game will be created at Tango, Mikami's new studio, and published by Bethesda. After that, the game vet will get out of the way and focus on running his new company.

"That's something I was planning for from the start," Mikami said. "I can only last for so long handling both director and company president duties, and besides, I want to give our younger developers a chance. Knowing that, of course, makes me want to put all of my experience, my energy, and everything else I've got into this game."

"I'm pretty lucky that [Bethesda]was willing to accept that, too. Too many publishers are only interested in the very near future, after all."

Will still have a job and still in the industry, so he'll have some influence - everyone wins!

first inafune and now mikami, well at least they seem to be doing it for the right reasons.

Inafune just left capcom, he's still making games and is going to open his own studio. From the interviews I've read with him I think you'd need to kill the guy to get him to stop making games.
