This Week In Games

It feels a bit like we're in the eye of some pre-Christmas release storm. While it's the first week of November, and you'd expect some sort of massive hurricane to sweep us up into a maelstrom of hyped up AAA titles, it's actually a little quiet on the games front at the moment.

The big 'uns are undisputedly the James Bond pair - Goldeneye 007 Classic Edition and Blood Stone - but asides from those two it's slim pickings. Except for Ghost of Sparta, which will worth dusting off your PSP for.

Battle Chess (PSP/Wii/DS) What is it? A version of Chess where the pieces battle each other. Like that scene in Star Wars with Chewbacca. Except with Chess. Should you care? Depends if you like Chess.

Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 What is it? Another Dragon Ball punch-a-thon. Should you care? We much prefer Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2. Datte-bayo.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP) What is it? Shrink-wrapped version of the slasher that redefines epic. Should you care? It's hard to think of a PSP game you should care more about.

Football Manager 2011 (PC) What is it? The most comprehensive sports management sim on the market Should you care? Football fans will love it, that goes without saying, but this truly is a great series.

Goldeneye 007 (Wii) What is it? The update that preserves your sweet, rose tinted memories from the beating they'll get if you ever think about returning to the original. Should you care? We'll be there day one. Will you?

Blood Stone 007 (360/PS3/PC) What is it? New Bond game from Bizarre Creations. Should you care? We don't really know yet! Not had much time with this one. We'd hold out for a bit.

Monopoly (DS) What is it? It's Monopoly. Should you care? Do you have the board game? Then no.

Monopoly Streets (PS3/Wii) What is it? As above. Should you care? As above.

Singstar Dance (PS3) What is it? Karaoke phenomenon being milked into oblivion. Should you care? Rock Band 3 is out.

Singstar Guitar (PS3) What is it? Less poppy version of Singstar Should you care? Again, Rock Band 3 is out.

Truth or Lies (360/PS3/PC) What is it? A Buzz-esque kinda board game style thingy Should you care? Nah.

still fence setting on goldeneye. so many competing interests to balance.

God of War : Ghost of Sparta

I'll be so there, give me something to play on the long trips to work.

    Singstar : Guitar & Dance

We have them all, so these will eventually get added to the collection, but I'm interested in the Guitar version though, give me something to do while the girlfriend is singing...

I'm eyeing off Bloodstone... I knid of like Quantum of Solace.

Dragon Ball is *so* on my purchase list. It takes everything good about the series (Like punching people through mountains and earth destroying energy blasts) And strips out the exposition, and episode long "I must raise my power! AAAUUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAHHH- *Cut to ad break*
    *Returns from ad break*
    "Just a little longer! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHUUUUUAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

brilliant! i once missed about 8 episodes in a row but the storyline had only progressed about a minute in real time. brilliant

Bloody Stone still sounds like Jimmy Bond has to head in for kidney surgery to me, but anyway. This week looks boring, so I'm going to pretend it's last week and stick with Fable III, TFUII and... oh, who am I kidding. I'm going to keep playing F:NV until my eyes boil in their sockets.

I remember playing battlechess in the early 90s, a lot of fun.
Rooks were castles that turned into golems to move, queens could do magic, and when one took the other an animation played.
The king generally pulled a weapon from somewhere.
    Ahh, good times.
If this one's as good, it might be worth getting.

For anyone whos thinking of getting bloodstone, I finished it on saturday probably around 7 hours long all up, pretty good game overall, its kinda funny as sometimes its easier to punch a whole room full of guards then shoot them

although I would suggest putting it on hard as medium is way too easy, id also suggest turning the auto aim off as it assists just a little too much, didnt get a chance to play system link but ill let you know.

This week might be quiet, but if you're a PS3 owner, the rest of November might result in video-game-induced bankruptcy. See here:

    - 9 November (next week): Black Ops

    - 15 November: *Criterion* NFS: Hot Pursuit (emphasis on criterion, as they are the nuts); and

'Sometime in November' (with fingers crossed, as I hear hell is getting a wee bit nippy): Gran Turismo 5. (Yeah, we'll see...)

    -------

If you're a sucker for the 'Mega stupid edition: with lots of unnecessary crap thrown in', that lot could set you back $$600.

I'll be happy with the standard versions mind you. It's the same game inside. :-)

Can't see GT in November now... If it's this year it will be December... hopefully...

      Add in Assassin's Creed though...

I'll be over $500 this month, GT would have killed me... :p

Well, EB Games being the morons that they are broke the street release date of Raging Blast 2.... yesterday.

Ah well, I bought it, but still....
