CheapSkate Gamer

This week in CheapSkate Gamer, we examine the metaphysical effects that gaming has on the unconditioned mind. We will explore how use of violence in video games has both helped, and hindered, the video game industry…

…NAH! Let’s get some deals on this plate!

PC
Digital Download

Asguarrd – $14.50 (50% off) – 4/5
As guarded as information on this game is, I think the screenshots do it a lot of justice, hence the high rating! (The first clause in this sentence was only there for the pun, ignore it.)

Back to the Future – $21.20 (12% off) – x/5
Too many quotables! Telltale hasn’t gone awry yet, so I’m guessing this is set to be another stellar series!

Blade Kitten
– $5.00 (50% off) – 4.5/5
An over-the-top action game that clearly holds nothing back. I like it!

Cities XL – $9.98 (50% off) – 3/5
It used to be “Cities L”, but it put on quite a bit of weight in the last few years.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Platinum – $11.98 (50%) – 4.5/5
If the thrill of having rollercoasters crash, in midair, to create a spectacular fireworks display over unsuspecting visitors doesn’t give you some enjoyment, have solace in the fact that you can drown them too. /not-joking

Section 8 – $4.99 (75% off) – 4/5
District 9, Section 8, Area 51. Do these military types even try?

Greed Corp. – $8.99 (10% off) – 4/5
Amazing game. And for $9, certainly worth it!

System Protocol One – $8.99 (10% off) – 3.5/5
A decent tower-defence game, but there are too many on the market, and this particular one doesn’t do what it needs to in order to shine.

Shatter – $2.50 (75% off) – 4.5/5
This game is so mind-numbingly difficult at times, and, unfortunately, you’ll know it’s your own fault. Smooth controls and snazzy visuals make this a must-buy.

Left 4 Dead 2 – $4.99 (75% off) – 4.5/5
When developing the original game, Valve toyed with the idea of Kept 2 Live, wherein players would find themselves happily prancing about a green meadow filled with rainbows and butterflies and happiness. Whatever happened, I like how it turned out!

DarkSiders – $19.95 – 3.5/5
It’s a genre explosion: Zelda style dungeons, God of War slashage. Pretty underrated and worth it at this price.

Alpha Protocol – $7.50 – 4.5/5
Headslam.

Aliens vs Predator – $6.95 – 1.5/5
Whoever wins, you lose… money, that is. And bandwidth. And possibly a bit of time.

Titan Quest Bundle – $9.95 – 4/5
Such a great game. Buy it!

Supreme Commander Gold – $9.95 – 5/5
This is one of the few RTS that I actually enjoyed, and being a stabby-stabby shoot-shoot inclined person, that’s saying a LOT!

Red Faction: Guerilla – $9.95 – 3.5/5
Note: I played this game. No gorillas AT ALL! So be warned, it’s not as good as it (literally) sounds.

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl – $9.95 – 4/5
If you haven’t played it by now, pick up a copy, it’s certainly worth it!

Saints Row 2 – $14.95 – 4/5
Being able to select between Nick, George and Andrew, amongst others, really lends a hand in this sport competition based game, and certainly an improvement over its predecessor. Of course, casting miracles while rowing has become a series highlight, especially with Nick, who can cast presents!

World of Zoo – $7.95 – 2.5/5
NOT a sequel to World of Goo. Don’t get sucked into the same trap I did!

Reflex MX vs ATV – $9.95 – 4/5
I don’t know what to say, it’s just too awesome!

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – $14.95 – 4.5/5
Space Marines. Seriously.

Retail Boxes
Sid Meier’s Civilization 5 – $36.99 – 4/5
A bit pricey, but a very enjoyable game!

Commandos Complete – $14.00 – 2.5/5
The unfinished title makes this game seem amateurish. I mean, what exactly are the Commando’s Completing? Commandos Complete Fishing Nets? Commandos Complete Raiden X? Too ambiguous!

Sims 3 – $49.97 – 4/5
Muchly expensive, but incredibly enjoyable. If setting your house on fire isn’t enough, try having a son older than a father, or a house that is entirely a swimming pool, with inhabitants who are terrified of swimming. An evil person will get just as much enjoyment out of this as I did! >:D

Xbox 360
Final Fantasy XIII – $38.00 – 4/5
I’m really hoping that someday it really will be the FINAL fantasy. 13, seriously?

Mafia 2 – $48.00 – 3/5
Probably not worth it according to reviews, but I loved this game, despite its flaws.

PS3
Naughty Bear – $33.99 – 3/5
No clue what this game is about, but the cover art and title makes it seem awesome!

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days – $38.00 – 2.5/5
O Eidos, how the great have fallen! Where have the developers of Hitman gone? How could you betray us in this way?

Wii
Dance on Broadway – $19.00 – 3/5
It’s dance, Jim, but not as we know it.

Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games – $38.00 – 3.5/5
I care not for reviews, this game was incredible fun during parties, although perhaps a bit pricey.

Chicken Blaster inc. 2 guns – $39.00 – 2.5/5
The only real reason to get this pack is because of the 2 guns included…

PSP
Shafted for 2 weeks? Have an epic sound!

DS
You too, DS!

Indies
Sorry, guys, nothing on the indie front.

Mods
GoldenEye: Source Version 4.1 – Half Life 2

Edian Mod – Battle For Middle Earth II

Payne Effects 3 Version 1.4 – Max Payne 2

Have any money left? Disappointing. Start again from the top, you obviously weren’t reading the list properly! Otherwise, did I leave a deal out? If so, comment below or on facebook, and tell us where!
