This week in CheapSkate Gamer, we examine the metaphysical effects that gaming has on the unconditioned mind. We will explore how use of violence in video games has both helped, and hindered, the video game industry…

…NAH! Let’s get some deals on this plate!

PC Digital Download

Asguarrd – $14.50 (50% off) – 4/5 As guarded as information on this game is, I think the screenshots do it a lot of justice, hence the high rating! (The first clause in this sentence was only there for the pun, ignore it.)

Back to the Future – $21.20 (12% off) – x/5 Too many quotables! Telltale hasn’t gone awry yet, so I’m guessing this is set to be another stellar series! Blade Kitten – $5.00 (50% off) – 4.5/5 An over-the-top action game that clearly holds nothing back. I like it!

Cities XL – $9.98 (50% off) – 3/5 It used to be “Cities L”, but it put on quite a bit of weight in the last few years.

Rollercoaster Tycoon Platinum – $11.98 (50%) – 4.5/5 If the thrill of having rollercoasters crash, in midair, to create a spectacular fireworks display over unsuspecting visitors doesn’t give you some enjoyment, have solace in the fact that you can drown them too. /not-joking

Section 8 – $4.99 (75% off) – 4/5 District 9, Section 8, Area 51. Do these military types even try?

Greed Corp. – $8.99 (10% off) – 4/5 Amazing game. And for $9, certainly worth it!

System Protocol One – $8.99 (10% off) – 3.5/5 A decent tower-defence game, but there are too many on the market, and this particular one doesn’t do what it needs to in order to shine.

Shatter – $2.50 (75% off) – 4.5/5 This game is so mind-numbingly difficult at times, and, unfortunately, you’ll know it’s your own fault. Smooth controls and snazzy visuals make this a must-buy.

Left 4 Dead 2 – $4.99 (75% off) – 4.5/5 When developing the original game, Valve toyed with the idea of Kept 2 Live, wherein players would find themselves happily prancing about a green meadow filled with rainbows and butterflies and happiness. Whatever happened, I like how it turned out!

DarkSiders – $19.95 – 3.5/5 It’s a genre explosion: Zelda style dungeons, God of War slashage. Pretty underrated and worth it at this price.

Alpha Protocol – $7.50 – 4.5/5 Headslam.

Aliens vs Predator – $6.95 – 1.5/5 Whoever wins, you lose… money, that is. And bandwidth. And possibly a bit of time.

Titan Quest Bundle – $9.95 – 4/5 Such a great game. Buy it!

Supreme Commander Gold – $9.95 – 5/5 This is one of the few RTS that I actually enjoyed, and being a stabby-stabby shoot-shoot inclined person, that’s saying a LOT!

Red Faction: Guerilla – $9.95 – 3.5/5 Note: I played this game. No gorillas AT ALL! So be warned, it’s not as good as it (literally) sounds.

Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl – $9.95 – 4/5 If you haven’t played it by now, pick up a copy, it’s certainly worth it!

Saints Row 2 – $14.95 – 4/5 Being able to select between Nick, George and Andrew, amongst others, really lends a hand in this sport competition based game, and certainly an improvement over its predecessor. Of course, casting miracles while rowing has become a series highlight, especially with Nick, who can cast presents!

World of Zoo – $7.95 – 2.5/5 NOT a sequel to World of Goo. Don’t get sucked into the same trap I did!

Reflex MX vs ATV – $9.95 – 4/5 I don’t know what to say, it’s just too awesome!

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II – $14.95 – 4.5/5 Space Marines. Seriously.

Retail Boxes Sid Meier’s Civilization 5 – $36.99 – 4/5 A bit pricey, but a very enjoyable game!

Commandos Complete – $14.00 – 2.5/5 The unfinished title makes this game seem amateurish. I mean, what exactly are the Commando’s Completing? Commandos Complete Fishing Nets? Commandos Complete Raiden X? Too ambiguous!

Sims 3 – $49.97 – 4/5 Muchly expensive, but incredibly enjoyable. If setting your house on fire isn’t enough, try having a son older than a father, or a house that is entirely a swimming pool, with inhabitants who are terrified of swimming. An evil person will get just as much enjoyment out of this as I did! >:D

Xbox 360 Final Fantasy XIII – $38.00 – 4/5 I’m really hoping that someday it really will be the FINAL fantasy. 13, seriously?

Mafia 2 – $48.00 – 3/5 Probably not worth it according to reviews, but I loved this game, despite its flaws.

PS3 Naughty Bear – $33.99 – 3/5 No clue what this game is about, but the cover art and title makes it seem awesome!

Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days – $38.00 – 2.5/5 O Eidos, how the great have fallen! Where have the developers of Hitman gone? How could you betray us in this way?

Wii Dance on Broadway – $19.00 – 3/5 It’s dance, Jim, but not as we know it.

Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games – $38.00 – 3.5/5 I care not for reviews, this game was incredible fun during parties, although perhaps a bit pricey.

Chicken Blaster inc. 2 guns – $39.00 – 2.5/5 The only real reason to get this pack is because of the 2 guns included…

PSP Shafted for 2 weeks? Have an epic sound!

DS You too, DS!

Indies Sorry, guys, nothing on the indie front.

Mods GoldenEye: Source Version 4.1 – Half Life 2

Edian Mod – Battle For Middle Earth II

Payne Effects 3 Version 1.4 – Max Payne 2

Have any money left? Disappointing. Start again from the top, you obviously weren’t reading the list properly! Otherwise, did I leave a deal out? If so, comment below or on facebook, and tell us where!

  • Tad… Dude!!

    You have Section 8 a 4.5/5 an AvP a 1.5/5

Are you sure you didn’t get those the wrong way around?

    Section 8 was horrendous! lol

In other news, another fantastic week – bigger and better than ever. You’re getting a real groove going now, buddy!

    • No wai bro! Section 8 was fantastic!
AvP would’ve ranked higher if it wasn’t an almost exact copy of the original, with better graphics and worse gameplay. 1.5 is harsh, probably closer to a 2.5 or 3. Maybe.

Ty bro, I agree. It’s becoming easier to write these because I kinda know what I’m doing now, rather than flailing around mindlessly, lol!

Also looking forward to your article 😀

      • Mate, what was fantastic about it?
        The horrible story?
        the below average voice acting?
        The clunky feel?

Apparently it was ok if you played it multiplayer, but no one i know, including me, could ever find a game! lol

  • By the way, the Back to the Future game (ep 1) was free to anyone who signed up on Telltale’s website a while back – not sure if they’re still doing that.

      • Don’t give the game 3/5 when your not sure what its about. Maybe just don’t give it a rating…How could you be a gamer and miss the abomination that is Naughty Bear??

Also, maybe add a disclaimer about the Steam games only being on sale for 48hrs from when the deal starts. Steam is holding a treasure hunt sale where the deals are updated every 48hrs. There’s about 13hrs left to pick up L4D2 and Shatter until they are replaced with new deals.

  • The Back to the Future pack is much cheaper on Direct2Drive when you use the coupon “HOHOHO” which takes a further 20% off the already discounted 15% off price and makes it $17 US.

  • Is it me but would only a PC gamer say about a relativly well received but only 3 month old game.

    Retail Boxes
    Sid Meier’s Civilization 5 – $36.99 – 4/5
A bit pricey, but a very enjoyable game!

Come play on the console side of the fence…..

    • Unfortunately they update their site on tuesday mornings… far too late for me to recheck all the deals. It’s a shame in timing, really…

  • Picked up SC 2 from Game for $59 on Sunday that just went, was meant to be only for the Cataclysm launch, but check your store if your around.

  • Picked up Batman: Arkham Asylum for about $21.95 yesterday and Saints Row 2 for less than $12. Pays to wait or even revisit classics when they are this cheap! Yes I am a CheapSkate gamer lol!

    • Thankyou for your feedback Justin,

I’m glad you decided to take the time out of your day in order to so eloquently and articulately convey your point in the briefest sense possible.

In regards to your actual message, I agree, but considering they are the cheapest I could find, I think it more accurately reflects on the PS3 community than on the stores.

If you believe you can find better, then attempt, in future, to do so and constructively add to this topic, so that others can bow down to your superior cheapskatedness.

      Yours truly,

        • Long way to fall? You’re saying it like this is my day job and I might get fired for giving a bit of vitriol to a troll.

What I said wasn’t rude or disrespectful in any way. I was merely pointing out that his comment had absolutely no relevance. Yes, the PS3 deals are more expensive than others, but finding cheaper is difficult.

I encourage people to find better deals, it makes it a more active and vibrant community (see above and on facebook).

If you didn’t see that my response was in jest, then I’ll take this opportunity to point out that it was. 😉

  • Pretty harsh there Matt.
There’s absolutely no negative information on this page, and finding the best prices can be pretty time consuming.
Keep up the good work Tad.
