Demon's Souls Will Stay Online Through October 2011

The brilliant Demon's Souls for the PlayStation 3 will keep its unique online experience intact for at least the next 10 months in North America, publisher Atlus said today, extending the life of From Software's deviously hard role-playing game.

Atlus USA has extended Demon's Souls' online service beyond the previously announced March 2011 (potential) cut off date. The publisher promises to support Demon's Souls servers until its second anniversary - October 6, 2011. And there's hope beyond that.

"We will support the online servers for Demon's Souls as long as we possibly can, and we'll be as transparent about the entire process as possible, hence us constantly updating folks as to what to expect," said Atlus PR man Aram Jabbari.

Atlus will also be switching the online servers to a Pure White Tendency mode for the holidays, a change that should extend into the new year. They also remind us, "Hey, Demon's Souls is a Greatest Hits game. How about buying a copy?"

As good a game as any released this generation. If you don't already have it, get it! I think it's on sale at JB for $49 atm so there's really no reason not to give it a go.

So when there's no server, will we just lose the player ghosts, bloodstain replays & messages?

That'd be a bugger since they're occasionally useful but then it might be worth it just to get rid of the seemingly endless repetitions of "I'm in trouble, please recommend this message"

What the hell does that DO anyway? Do you get souls or health when you get a recommendation? I've had a few messages recommended but I've never really noticed an advantage

You get a heal when your message is recommended.

When there are no servers, you'll only get offline play mode. So no: ghosts running around, no bloodstain death replays, no messages to read or to leave and worst of all, no souls to summon or to be invaded by.

Hopefully by October 2011 Dark Project would have been released. ^_^

When you leave a message and it gets recommended AND you are online at the time, you get a full heal.

The reason why you may not notice it is because when you leave a message, you may have already finished your session. When you log back in you get the notification that your message has has been recommended but you are already at full health.

I have a strong suspicion I'm getting this for christmas. I guess I'd better make the best of it while the servers are still up!

I've been thinking about getting a PS3 sometime next year (I know, a bit late to the party - need more dosh and some major wife convincing) and Demon's Souls has always been on my 'must play' list. It sucks to learn that a key element of a game can disappear, so that the full experience of Demon's Souls might not be available by the time I get around to playing it.

Why can't they find a way to peer to peer it or something so that there's at least some way to join other people's games once the server is gone (does that sentence show an immense lack of understanding of how it all works)?

really doesn't seem like this would be super server intensive :(

guess ill have to find time to finish this as well sometime in the next year

Is there any list of games made this generation whose servers have actually been shut down - you know so you can avoid these games in the bargain bin?
