Minecraft Transforms, Beta And Changes Kick In Soon

The phenomenally popular computer game Minecraft which attracted more than two million gamers worldwiide while still in its alpha state will go into beta on December 20. With that comes polish, a raised price and more.

Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson made the announcement today on his development blog, promising that the new beta version of Minecraft will come with "a larger focus on polish and content, and we'll start early on with adding proper modding support with a stable API." (An API, or application programming interface, allows a piece of software to work more effectively and cleanly with others.)

Traditionally the transition of a video game form alpha to beta indicates that the game's developers are done adding features. In this case, Notch says that, with the beta, "[w] e'll also add some kind of non-intrusive narrative to the game to help drive the game experience early on, and to provide some kind of late game goal." It's not clear if those changes will appear on December 20 or be rolled out after then.

The Beta version of the game will cost more than the Alpha, which has cost 9.95 Euros or $US13.16 U.S. The Beta version will run consumers 14.95 Euros or $US19.77 U.S. Those who have the Alpha will be able to upgrade to the Beta (and presumably the future final release) for free. Anyone whose first Minecraft purchase is the Beta, however, will only receive the Beta patches for free and will have to buy Minecraft in full when it is finally launched at some future time.

So glad I jumped on this train at alpha... friend introduced me to this and weve been building an empire in mp ever since.

    AWESOME FUN! EVERYONE GET MINECRAFT!

The game is a lot of fun, but personally I could with for a little bit more content. I find I get a little tired of just building stuff and mining after a while so I would like more side stuff to do, like the ability to farm or fish. If these had some more useful rewards they would be nice ways to relax after a hard days mining.

So, its minecraft, and you are sick of mining and crafting? Wait for minefarmfishcraft i guess :P

Hell f**king NO! I want the real deal minecraft even if i have to mine
