PlayStation Boss Sees A Touch Panel Future For PSP Games

Considering Sony's PSP successor is yet to be officially unveiled by the company, you can't expect PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai to speak at length on the PSP2. What he can do, though, it speak briefly.

In an interview with the New York Times, Hirai gets talking about what future PlayStation Portable games might be able to offer, and says "Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel."

"But you can definitely play immersive games better with physical buttons and pads. I think there could be games where you're able to use both in combination."

You don't say. Remember, the PSP2 is heavily rumoured to be packing a combination of traditional controls and a touch-sensitive device on the back of the unit.

    A PSP DS you say.

It's nice to see Sony is back to the old days of stealing from Nintendo *gets misty eyed*

Please dont go down the touch screen pathway. I personally think its horrible. having an ipod touch for many years, gaming on it which require non physical controls is a pain. like you dont know how far or hard to push, and at times its unresponsive.

Touch screens are "ok" if the games developed don't go overboard with it. :S I couldn't play one of the Harvest Moons on DS cos I was so annoyed having the stick constantly on the screen while moving. Decided it wasn't worth getting used to and just dropped it altogether.
