1000 Spikes Is More Than Enough To Kill You

Rarely has playing through a game for Kotaku’s Xbox Live Indie Clips hurt quite as badly as playing through Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes hurt me.

I’m sorry for the language, should any crop up in this video. I can’t quite remember if it did or not, and I don’t want to look, as this game was painful. Not painfully bad, mind you – just painful.

Aban Hawkings & the 1000 Spikes is an adventurous retro title that gives you 1000 lives to make your way through a series of ruins, the designer of which obviously had some sort of compulsive trapping disorder. You will die. Then you will die again. Eventually (hopefully) you’ll make it through an entire level, and then the dying begins all over again.

It’s actually quite challenging and fun, once you get used to the fact that you have 1000 lives for a very good reason.

Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes is available now on Xbox Live Marketplace for 80 Microsoft points.
