Monster Hunter Finally Slayed By A.C.E.

Monster Hunter Finally Slayed By A.C.E.

Who can stop Monster Hunter Portable 3’s streak? Only another PSP game, one with similar Japanese flair, Another Century’s Episode Portable. The mech simulation has dethroned the latest and four million selling Monster Hunter in Japan.

The latest A.C.E. from armoured Core developer From Software managed to secure the top spot in this week’s Japanese bestsellers list, with only one other game managing to score a top 10 spot. That would be Arcana Heart 3, the all-female fighting game for the PlayStation 3.

Arcana Heart 3 sits behind a handful of other games still hot in Japan, including Studio Ghibli’s animated adventure Ni no Kuni and the J-pop idol group software AKB1/48: Idol to Koishitara… Oh, and Donkey Kong Country Returns, which looks like it’ll wind up being a million seller in Japan.

Here are the bestselling games in Japan for the week of January 10 to 16.

  • The AKB game is the PSP game of the year for me. Too bad Sony are complete and absolute morons and only made a handful of the PSP pack so nobody could buy the stupid thing (preorders were sold out within the first hour- not an exaggeration). Obviously they don’t WANT to make money…

  • I have ACE R on PS3. It’s fun and flashy with plenty of old school appearances. But it feels limp and tight on content compared to the final PS2 game. Here’s hoping a fleshed out sequel is in the works.
