Mushihime-sama: Bug Panic Doesn’t Need Bug Spray

Because this game’s got bombs.

Japanese arcade developer Cave brings its popular shoot ’em up Mushihime-sama to the iOS with Mushihime-sama: Bug Panic. Only now with a new spin.

Instead of a straight-up shmup, the game adds a dash of Bomberman for a side-scrolling adventure title. Sure, the arcade original had bombs that could clear the screen, but the emphasis was on shooting and dodging. Here, it about chucking bombs and running away.

But this isn’t some slopped together job for the iOS. The game looks quite pretty and features a musical score from former Castlevania composer Michiru Yamane.

Many folks seem to really be into this title, but it kept making me want to swing by an arcade for a few rounds of shooter Mushihime-sama Futari, instead.
