The first Portal’s marketing and art design was all about minimalism. Cold, stark science. Portal 2’s box art, on the other hand, says “we spent a lot more time and money on this game”.
Those robots don’t seem terribly impressed, though, and are rightly trying to make a getaway. Portal 2 will be out on April 18 in North America, and April 22 in Europe and Australia.

Thats a good question
judging on real time to valve time I would say it’s more likely to be “December 18 for North America, and December 22 for Europe and Australia.”
If the time from now and the release increases through valve to real time conversion, wouldn’t the three day release gap also increase?

I think everyone’s gonna comment on that pointless portal loop he’s got going, haha.
oh and i hope i’m not the only one who noticed the companion cube in the background?
I’m sure it doesn’t reflect on the game, but that cover art’s pretty crap.

No it’s not? It’s simple, effective and not gaudy at all? WTF did you expect? A starwars Floating heads style poster?
No I have to agree with Ty.
I would have expected something minimal with a little hinting, much like the design on that issue of Gameinformer once.
This one screams:
HEY YOU! YOU LIKE ROBOTS? HOW ABOUT WACKY ROBOTS? WITH PORTALS! THEY’RE SO COOL BECAUSE IT’S IN THE MULTIPLAYER, THIS GAME IN NO WAY FEATURES A GROUNDBREAKING AND MEANINGFUL SINGLE PLAYER EXPERIENCE, BECAUSE THAT’S NOT AS WACKY AND FUN AS THESE SPUNKY ROBOTS!
I agree, it does feel like they didn’t really go for that nice austere atmosphere of the first game and just threw on the cover whatever they thought was cool and appealing. Given the popularity of the first game I don’t think its necessary.

Your mention of cake reminded me of something:
